The Labour Party Coordinator in Ewohimi, Esan South-East Local Government Area of Edo State, Comrade Stanley Okanemhe has reportedly escaped an assassination attempt on his life during the presidential election held on February 25,2023.
Reports from the area said three gunmen stormed the unit one polling centre Ewohimi on Saturday morning while voting was going on smoothly and shot at two persons, killing them instantly.
" As the two men lay dead on the ground, one of the gunmen shouted; 'we have missed our target, this is not Okanemhe Stanley", an eye witness account said.
It was gathered that after the shooting at the.polling centre in Ewohimi, the gunmen moved to Stanley's house in Benin City where they wreaked havoc, destroying his household properties and injuring his wife and one of his kids.
Family sources said the attack was politically motivated as Stanley had been under intense pressure from one of the political parties prior to the election for him to abandon the Labour Party and.pitch tent with another party.
" They offered to give him money if only he could abandon the Labour Party and join their political party but he rejected their Greek gift and vowed to sail or sink with the Labour Party", a family source said.
The family source further added that Stanley had received threat messages , warning him to join the political party or face the dire consequences of his decision.
"Now, this is what it has come to, they want him dead at all costs", the source said with an air of despair.
Efforts to get Stanley Okanemhe to speak on the incident was not successful as he is said to be in hiding for fear of his life.
