IPOB Violent protest: Youth leader declared wanted

A Youth leader, known as Obinna Pachal Chipandu has had a bounty placed on his head, for allegedly leading proscribed members of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) to cause violence and destructions of properties in IHIALA Local Government Area of Anambra State despite the denial by IPOB that he was not their member

Obinna Pachal Chipandu, an indigene of Orsumoghua, IHIALA local government Anambra state. A farmer, a banker and an environmental activist, a strong member of Labour Party (LP). He is known for fighting against the activities of illegal mining in his community

He is that one individual, that has passion, that one Individual that has fire in the belly, that one individual that is determined that something should be done. He advocates for and work toward protecting the natural environment.

He organized a community of people who have joined together in order to create change, through taking action on behalf of an issue they all care about. This means that everyone is an activist, the group is working together on a common cause, In order to save the environment

The people of the community is losing more lands to erosion as a result of illegal mining and other activities. Environmental damage, high levels of pollution of (soil, water, and air), and disruption to the wider community. The blasting activities carried out during mining has caused disruption to people's lives, especially in terms of economic, social, and cultural rights.

One week after the conduct of Anambra state Assembly elections on March 18, 2023, which Obinna Pachal Chipandu contested under the umbrella of the Labour party but lost in 2023 The two most volatile constituencies in Anambra State, Aguata and Ihiala, are currently at the mercy of civil unrest following protests by over 5,000 youths against the outcome of the exercise in the area with several vehicles, buildings and other properties worth millions of naira destroyed by irate youths protesting the outcome of the election in the community.

The ongoing crisis took a twist on the 5th August , 2023, as Obinna Pachal Chipandu, a Labour Party House of Assembly candidate in the last elections narrowly escaped an assassination attempt allegedly orchestrated by government agents. It was a calculated attempt and not an Impromptu one. It was learnt that gunmen suspected to be assassins broke into the home of Obinna Pachal Chipandu. 

Our correspondent gathered that Obinna Pachal Chipandu was not at home when the men struck in the early hours of the day. The gunmen reportedly in Army uniform, numbering eight were said to have gained access into the residence after laying wait outside the fence for several hours.

They were said to have ransacked the building while holding domestic aides hostage and demanded to know his whereabouts. Our correspondent gathered that the gunmen eventually left after their efforts to get Obinna Pachal Chipandu failed to yield any result.

Consequent upon this, Obinna Pachal Chipandu had a bounty of 500 million naira placed on his head by the government, for allegedly leading proscribed members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) to cause violence and destructions of properties in IHIALA Local Government Area of Anambra State

It was reported that the whereabouts of Obinna Pachal Chipandu is unknown. According to one of his siblings "we are afraid he might be killed by the government, we don't know if he's dead or alive"
