The Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Chairman, Dr. Eric Osayande, on Tuesday, met with sector commanders of the vigilante security network to strengthen the LGA's security architecture and ensure the locality is safe for residents, business owners, others.
Osayande called for increased protection of public facilities, urging the vigilante force to strengthen collaboration with sister security networks.
The Council Chairman reiterated his commitment to the security of lives and property of Ikpoba-Okha residents.
Noting, "we have a sacred duty to continue to interface to protect lives and property on our care, our people must see that there is a significant improvement in our security arrangement; we must fuse the LGA into a small network, making it uncomfortable for criminals and people with vices".
Osayande called for the overhaul of security arrangement in Uhie community; he noted that reports from the community has been disturbing, advancing the need to overhaul security presence in the area.
"I have received disturbing reports in Uhie; intelligence reports suggests sabotage in the security arrangement; we must move quickly to reorganize that area for the safety of residents".
The Chairman immediately directed the Uhie sector commander to reorganize the area and report back to him in a few days; he also approved the creation of Uhie unit to ease security flow in the area.
Urging the sector commanders to be more vigilant and professional in their approach; he said, "we must apply professionalism in our activities; we must build strong inter-communal relations to secure our people".
Declaring monthly reward for best-performing sector commander, "we are putting up incentives to motivate you in your duty; on a monthly, the best-performing sector commander across the LGA will get a reward".
Osayande called for security coverage for revenue collectors, agents in the LGA; he called on commanders to ensure revenue collectors in their domains gets adequate security coverage to do their jobs.
The Chairman noted that unidentified persons parading themselves as revenue collectors and going about with fake tickets to extort residents and business owners should also be checked.
He asked the various sector commanders to arrest fake revenue collectors as they pose serious threat to the Council, residents and business owners.
"You must continue to build strong collaborations with relevant security outfits; Ikpoba-Okha residents are looking up to you, you must continuously place Ikpoba-Okha in the forefront as we are known for excellence and good works", Osayande added.
Recall the vigilante security network was first established by the Ikpoba-Okha Council Chairman, when in 2020, the ENDSARS protestations nearly crippled human activities in the area.
