Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Chairman, Dr. Eric Osayande has called for collaboration with religious organizations, security, NGOs to curb the use and spread of drugs amongst youths in the area.
The Chairman made the case on Tuesday in his office when he met with security and religious stakeholders to advance the need for increased collaboration to tackle vices amongst youths in the local government area.
According to him, "Council is ready to sustain partnership with religious organizations to reduce the burden of drug abuse on youths in our communities, campaign against illicit use of hard drugs and other substances among youths; there is also the need to heighten our sensitisation against cultism."
Osayande urged the church to educate youths on the effects of the consumption of hard drugs which have destroyed the lives of many individuals, especially youths in Nigeria.
“Council has devised means of tackling drug use amongst youths in the locality; there is an annual cultural programme and sports initiative put in place to keep youths busy; the ongoing Principal's Cup and other programmes of Council run simultaneously to keep youths busy and keep them out of drugs, cultism, other vices."
"We must continue to build strong synergy by way of sensitization, productive engagement and other ventures", Osayande added.
Representative of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), Rev. Jerry Osamede, appreciated the Council Chairman for the good works he did in his first term and prayed that the lord almighty give him the grace to sustain the tempo and do greater works for Ikpoba-Okha people.
“the Ikpoba-Okha christian community is very proud of your sterling achievements; and to assure you that we will continue to build on our cooperation for the good of our people; we ask that the almighty God continue to strengthen you for increased service to our people,” he noted.
Men from the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) from across Divisions in the local government area, Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC), Department of State Services (DSS), Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Vigilante and the traditional institution were in attendance at the Tuesday meeting.
