Ahead of full blown campaigns later in the month, Dr Asue Ighodalo, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in the September governorship election has scaled up his visits and meeting with Edolites across the state and has undisputably become the hardest working candidate of the three major parties listed by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Recently, Asue met with Edo State Muslim Community and had a very robust discussion with the leadership. The discussion was centered around peaceful co-existence and harmonious living irrespective of religious and ethnic leaning or political affiliation.

This same week, he also met with some Labour Party (LP) and Obidient leaders in Uromi, including Barrister Friday Ibadin, the Senatorial Leader of the LP in Edo Central in a meet and greet visit. Ibadin who led party leaders from the five Local Government Areas (LGAs) of the district, however, extolled the sterling qualities of Dr Ighodalo, saying he very much qualified to be the next Governor of the state.

The endorsement, which came amidst growing anticipation for the forthcoming election marked a notable shift in political alliances within the state. Barrister Ibadin highlighted Dr. Ighodalo’s track record of service and his commitment to the welfare of the people. He praised Asue's vision for the state and expressed confidence in his ability to lead Edo State to greater heights.

“The decision to endorse Dr. Asue Ighodalo stems from our belief in his capacity to deliver on his promises and steer our dear state towards prosperity,” stated Barrister Ibadin.

In response, Dr. Asue Ighodalo expressed gratitude to Barrister Friday Ibadin and the leaders of the LP for their support. He reiterated his commitment to inclusive governance and pledged to work tirelessly for the development of Edo State when elected.

The tireless working PDP candidate was at home for the holidays where he attended the coronation of the Onogie of Ewohimi.

The people of Ewohimi on March 30 witnessed the handing over of the Staff of Office to a new Onojie, HRH Lord Destiny Ebatamaehi Osifoh Ogienefoh II by the state government. Asue was part of the ceremony and was the cynosure of all eyes.

On Sunday, Asue was at St Andrews Anglican Church in Ekpoma to attend the Easter Sunday service. He was warmly welcomed by worshipers.

After the service, he moved to the residence of Elder Giwa to have lunch there and as well visited the the Onojie of Ugboha where he met with His Royal Highness, Ukato. He also used the opportunity to meet with the group, Ewohimi Diaspora, a group that has been very supportive of his aspiration since he declared interest to contest the gubernatorial election.

In spite of the fact that Asue is the most popular and most acceptable candidate across the 18 Local Government Area that make up Edo State, he is the candidate that visits and meets with the people the most. He does not take their support for granted. He meets market women in markets, meets stakeholders, meets party leaders, meets artisans and people from all segments of Edo State. This is what is called grassroots politics.
