The major factor around crisis, restiveness and unrests bother around communication. When there is no effective communication, there would be misunderstanding, assumption misinformation as well as misinterpretation and all these affect peace on the long run. For there to be peace, there must be a clear communication without ambiguity to the understanding and comprehension of all parties involved. We may end up having just tolerance when there is no effective communication and this cannot take the place of peace.
As campaign towards the Edo2024 Gubernatorial Election commences, Electorates need to be cautious of politicians that would use the words "*Change & Continuity*" to canvass for votes.
We are sounding this caution because we have observed overtime that the political quagmire we are in today were as a result of our failure to ask for the meaning of these words when they were used.
Concerning Edo2024 beyond Changing the ruling party from PDP, what other specific Change do they want to bring. If any party is saying "Vote for Change", they should be able to itemise the specific change or changes they would need us to see.
In same manner, if PDP is saying vote for Continuity, there has to be specific mention of the things that would be continued. It has to go beyond just PDP remaining the ruling party. There are many things going in the Governor Obaseki led administration, there has to be specific mention of what would be *continued.*
Overtime, Electorates have really not being able to hold those canvassing for offices accountable because political office seekers use blanket languages. These languages that usually contains Change and Continuity need to checked as well as completely analysed for its true meaning.
If Electorates must be able to hold political office seekers accountable, there should be specific mentions of issues. One of the ways to ensure that is to beware of the Words "*Change & Continuity*"
For us to have sustainable peace before, during and after the election, paying attention to campaign messages is key. Campaign messages should be clearly communicated.
If you come across these words, for the sake of peace tomorrow, ask questions.
Together, we can have a peaceful, free, fair, credible and a conclusive EDO 2024 Election.
