BENIN CITY- A 64-yr-old Woman, Madam Osaeniye Edokpaigbe, has regretted what is described as sudden invasion of their family house and subsequent destruction of valuable properties worth millions of naira by the political thugs said to be supporters of the All Progressives Congress, APC in Edo State.

She described the attack as not only devilish and wicked, but politically motivated to ruin the life of her son, Friday Edokpaigbe, a stalwart of the People Democratic Party , PDP, in Oredo Local Government Area of the state

Recall that her son, Friday Edokpaigbe has been mobilising support for his party, PDP, against the APC, especially to advocate justice over the engagement of the APC thugs in the recent attack at the Benin Airport, where a police orderly attached to the senator representing Edo Central Senatorial District in the national assembly and APC governorship candidate in the September 21 governorship election in the state, Senator Monday Okpebholo, was killed.

The killing of the police inspector, has sparked off controversies to the extent that he (Friday Edokpaigbe) , who confirmed and identified one of the thugs who shot the police dead, being a younger brother of one of the APC youths leaders, became the target of killing for exposing them.

Madam Edokpaigbe while speaking with Journalists, said that trouble started with her son when the APC leadership discovered that he was mobilising the voters ahead of the forthcoming election for his party.

She added that on the fateful day, July 18, his son was detailed to canvass support for PDP and in the process of going to see some of their members, they were ran into the thugs of APC who were shooting sporadically at the Benin Airport as they were waiting for the arrival of the sacked deputy Governor, Rt Hon Philip Shaibu, who was coming to execute the court judgment on ex-parte motion filed in a federal high court, Abuja to challenge his sack.

She noted that in the process of shooting sporadically, they killed the police inspector and in exercise of their assertion, the said Friday Edokpaigbe and his members were able to identify the particular person that killed the officer and they raised alarm, that drew the concern of well meaning Nigerians to the extent that the governor, his Excellency, Governor Godwin Obaseki charged the police commissioner to bring those responsible for the shooting to justice

Gov Obaseki also told the commissioner of police that the sacked deputy Governor, Rt Hon Philip Shaibu was responsible and that he should be questioned.

Madam Edokpaigbe asserted further that it was on that premise that the APC thugs started to trail her son, Friday Edokpaigbe to kill for exposing them.

"After the entire drama which characterised by the killing of the police orderly, my son was in his residence at Sapele road at bypass when some thugs came to our house at First East Circular road, Benin City and started shooting sporadically while molesting and assaulting every occupant of the house and thereafter started destroying the building and all other valuable properties, insisting that as if the attack was not enough, the thugs went to my son residence with the intentions to kill him but my son was lucky to escape.

She maintained that his escape never gone down well with the APC thugs, who vowed to carry out their dastardly minded plans and that the police and other security agents cannot arrest and prosecute them because they are being controlled by APC led Federal government and that they were out to kill all the PDP supporters who have tried to expose them.

Madam Edokpaigbe disclosed that her son had to escape out of Benin City as the police on the orders of the Inspector General of Police, Instead of arresting the APC thugs resorted to harassing PDP supporters including Friday Edokpaigbe as their main target.

She noted that as at the time of filing the report, the whereabout of her son, whom she referred to as the bread winner, remains unknown whether they have succeeded in killing him or he has been arrested, remained misery but however called for the arrest and prosecution of those behind the killing and threats to her son, just as she appealed for his protection wherever he was seen, saying politics is not a do or die affair and that her son has the right to support any group.
