High level of insecurity has posed serious threats to the development of Primary Health Care in Benin City as doctors and nurses work in an atmosphere characterised by incessant invasion and attack, which ordinarily could have been addressed.

A working investigation to the Oredo Primary Health Centre at Sapele road by Second East Circular road junction, revealed that armed robbers have ceaselessly invaded and attacked both doctors, nurses and even patients at night, a situation which militates against their working pattern vis-a-vis admitting patience and attending to patients with different vary degree of sicknesses.

My curiosity as to why the issues of insecurity within the premises were yet salvage, some health workers, names withheld, said that they had complained to appropriate authority and that there wasn't a positive change regarding their complaints.

I further asked whether the Edo State government was aware because this present administration of Governor Godwin Obaseki, on the state has taken priority attention to health sector to the extent that he recently sacked the immediate past commissioner for health, Dr. Ali, for not leaving up to his responsibility in terms of service delivery to the people and wondered why he was taking the issues of insecurity with levity.

Though doctors were on ground but were scared to speak about the matter, saying they are not in the position.

They however condemned high spate of insecurity which has culminated in callous attack and robbery of nurses and patients' belongings.

They appealed to relevant authorities in the state particularly the Edo State Governor to charge the contractor handling the new hospital building in the premises to expedite action to complete the project before the governor leaves office in November, just as they had also appealed to the in coming governor not to abandon all the ongoing projects in the state, stressing government is in continuity.
