Abuja, Nigeria - The Okirika Youth Association has issued a 7-day notice to Oando PLC to pay outstanding land rent for the exploration of oil wells in their community.
The oil wells, formerly owned by Agip and recently acquired by Oando, have been operated without payment of land rent to the host community for six consecutive years.
Reasons for Protest
1. Non-payment of land rent for six consecutive years.
2. Neglect of community development projects.
3. Environmental degradation and pollution.
Demands
1. Immediate payment of outstanding land rent.
2. Implementation of community development projects.
3. Environmental remediation and compensation.
Ultimatum
The Okirika Youth Association has given Oando PLC 7 days, effective Monday, September 23rd, 2024, to meet their demands. Failure to comply will result in:
- Occupation of all Oando offices in Nigeria.
- Mass protests and rallies.
- Legal action.
