The ongoing Edo election petitions tribunal and its accompanying revelations, gives credence to the brazen irregularities, inconsistencies, malpractice and woes facilitated by INEC in favour of APC/Okpebholo, declaring false victory for the APC last September.
The Justice Wilfred Kpochi-led 3-member Edo State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal, deserves commendation for setting the tone of honour, dispassion, fairness, transparency and credibility in its proceedings thus far.
Having ensured a level playing field for cross-examination, there is a glowing confidence that the final outcome will meet popular expectations, suggesting a clinical reflection of the will and aspirations of the vast majority of Edo people, who trooped out en masse September 21, 2024, to cast their votes for the PDP/Asue-Ogie, defiling the torrential rainfall and the scorching sun that followed.
To this end, the eyes of the world beams gorgeously on the judiciary, believing true and same that the expected transparent, credible and dispassionate judgement flowing from its proceedings, will suffice in setting a new and commendable order in our nation's electoral system.
Notably, observers have opined that the documentary evidence, all CTCs, before the tribunal, as provided by the PDP/Asue-Ogie legal team, confessional statements by witnesses of the petitioner, plus all other terrestrial paraphernalia, if dispassionately and carefully cross-examined, should naturally guide or be seen to be guiding the tribunal in its proceedings; however, that the law has its modus operandi and line of thought, cannot be wished away just like that.
But then, Nigerians and the rest of the world expects a justiceable outcome; an outcome capable of restoring public confidence in our public institutions.
And as hearing progresses, going by emerging revelations, developments from the court room, deeply exposing the irregularities, woes, illegalities, malpractice and inconsistencies surrounding the September 21 Edo governorship election, for which APC/Okpebholo emerged amid roping controversies, popular opinion suggests that the tribunal's commitment to uphold the ideas of fairness, justice, equity, honour, dispassion, integrity, and credibility, will be a major setback for APC/Okpebholo going forward.
Let us rejoice in the tribunal's avowed commitment to do the right thing, giving Edo people the opportunity to have the true leaders they voted and by extension heralding the joyful and happy coming of Asue Ighodalo, alongside his amiable running mate, Osarodion Ogie.
