_...as CTCs continue to reveal massive electoral fraud in Edo guber_
By Gidigba Group
The September 21, 2024 Edo governorship election may have come and gone, but the embarrassing consequences flowing from the fraud, malpractice that followed, favouring APC/Okpebholo may yet take a long while hunting beneficiaries of the electoral heist.
Sadly, our dear Edo, and by extension Nigeria, is at the centrestage, incurring us an unsolicited notorious and infamous reputation going forward.
Whereas the ongoing Edo election petitions tribunal tells of a sad tale of our country's weak commitment to strengthening public institutions, which of cause includes INEC, at the Edo homefront, however, it is a big blow on our international relations, hindering extensive foreign investors' drive.
Of cause, no investor would naturally want to invest in an environment with questionable public institution credibility; one reason the Okpebholo-led government hasn't been able to achieve anything significant because the legitimacy of his government is now under judicial cross-examination, being followed religiously by people across the world; more worrisome is the lack of policy direction, vision that ought to drive every administration.
INEC must be held responsible for its unrepentant willingness to compromise such a sacred and sacrosanct exercise as election, every now and then, we continue to resort to judicial interventions to ascertain the validity of elections, APC however, must also share in the blame for its desperation to rubbish our electoral system, making INEC offers it can't refuse.
The need for an all-encompassing public institution reforms cannot be overemphasized; moreover, political parties in or out of power, must continue to deliver on the ideals of good policies and programmes, so as to gain significant political and social capital for subsequent elections, rather than banking on fraudulent electoral process, as was seen in Edo governorship poll, thereby ridiculing our electoral system.
The September 21 Edo governorship election, was by all standards, a rape of the collective sensibilities of Edo people, it was a daylight robbery of the preferred choice, will and aspirations of the vast majority of Edo people, criminally co-ordinated by INEC and APC; believably, the ongoing tribunal holding in Benin City, the Edo State capital, will correct this mess to at least show to the world that it is never business-as-usual in the Nigerian judicial system; furthermore, restore public confidence in our public institution systems and give Edo people the true and actual leaders they voted last September.
Revelations flowing from the courtroom, since the resumed hearing at the tribunal, giving credence to the massive fraud, criminality, disregard for electoral procedures, malpractice, irregularities, inconsistencies, lawlessness and heist that now places the election on a double-edged sword of judicial cross-examination, leaves observers to continually wonder or ask, how much APC may have paid INEC to brazenly mess up our electoral system?
