The classification of "acting Chairman" is alien in our constitution and laws; that office is illegal and any money spent, no matter how small, by an acting Chairman is subject to criminality; they have no constitutionally-backed authorization to deal with banks or any financial institution in Nigeria, and so any acting Chairman you see around is a decorated criminal and a common thief.
Local government workers have to bear the damning consequences of Okpebholo's lawlessness; his thoughtless and and rash decisions on critical issues has crippled grassroots development across LGAs in Edo; today, under Okpebholo and his so-called acting Chairmen, Councils are a shadow of themselves, they can't even pay salaries.
Council funds are not within the jurisdiction of acting Chairmen to spend, as our constitution and Edo State local government laws does not recognize acting Chairmanship; and whatever action these acting Chairmen may have taken since their lawless imposition is illegal and criminal in the eye of the law.
Two months running, local government workers in Edo are left out, stranded in the cold, disillusioned, confused, uncertain of when and how their salaries will come, unable to meet home demands, many have resorted to taking up menial jobs, while their primary assignments in Council suffers.
Unfortunately, the Councilors, who out of unquenchable taste for power and dangerous greed, presented themselves as willing tools to fulfill Okpebholo's lawless and reckless demands, are just there doing nothing, order than taking pictures and gallivanting around town, with a toga of criminality hanging majestically on their necks, the illegality they currently sits on hinders them from embarking on any capital adventure; under their very watch, local government workers go home starved, stranded, disillusioned, sad, unmotivated and unpaid.
The local government, being the third tier of government, plays a pivotal role in driving development down the grassroots, it is the people's government, considering their closeness to the Councils, its autonomy which has become a national discourse before now, has gained global accolades, hoping that its development will become a national priority, in Edo however, there is a deliberate attack on local government autonomy, orchestrated by the governor, a situation that has thrown local government workers and its agents in jeopardy and incapacitated development.
Okpebholo's lawless moves to pocket the local government, which has degenerated into a legal crisis, leading to stoppage in financial transactions, is not only biting hard on local government workers, but has crippled development across the 18 LGAs in Edo State, presenting the State as a huge joke in the eye of serious individuals and groups.
