For Okpebholo to perform, he must have to retain Obaseki's model

The dismantling of Obaseki's model by the Okpebholo-led administration has been more of a curse to Edo State—a situation where government officials use their private account to lodge government revenues portends great danger for the State. 

This style has become common place in Okpebholo's government; officials diverting large chunk of government revenues to their own accounts—Okpebholo must rise beyond mundane political patronage and provide leadership. 

There are obvious loopholes in every sector under Okpebholo's watch—it is not enough to suspend and replace overnight—pilfering and stealing of government funds must be stopped via the instrumentalities of digital application. 

When you dismantle a productive and accountable system for cheap political reasons, the aftereffects are what we see in Okpebholo's Edo—where individuals using government cover to extort citizens. 

When Obaseki introduced the digital revenue collection system, we saw a significant increase in the State's revenue drive— government could conveniently generate over ₦4billion monthly; today, under Okpebholo, Edo can hardly generate ₦2billion as most of the revenues make their way into private pockets, leading to a decay on infrastructure and provision of essential services to Edo people. 

Okpebholo must rethink his strategy and grow beyond local politics—his government remains endangered should he continue to prioritize political patronage over quality service to Edo people—the almost weekly bad reports about his administration casts shadows of doubts on his ability to manage a complex Edo. 

More importantly, Okpebholo must find ways, beyond political, to sustain Obaseki's digital legacies, keep Edo on a pedestal, and provide quality leadership over and above mundane political patronage that is now driving the State on autopilot. 

For it is not enough to suspend and replace erring officials at night, lasting legacies that hitherto put Edo on the spotlight of cross-cultural development and accountable leadership on Obaseki's watch must be seen to be sustained and built on.
