Unconfirmed reports has it that Okpebholo is planning to drop the Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice, Edo State, Samson Osagie, and replace him with Roland Otaru, SAN.
Samson Osagie hails from the Benin-speaking area of Edo State, politically refereed to as Edo South—a district allegedly facing systemic marginalization in the Okpebholo-led government, while Otaru hails from Edo North.
Whereas we have not been able to confirm the reason(s) for Okpebholo's planned removal of Samson Osagie, a loyal and committed aide of the governor, we are compelled to believe strongly that it may be unconnected with deliberate moves to systemically weaken the Benins in the scheme of things.
Although, we cannot tell authoritatively if Okpebholo has personal squabbles with Samson Osagie, we do know however that, AG Osagie has shown unalloyed loyalty and total commitment in the discharge of his duty and must not be faced with any kind of humiliation whatsoever.
An insider in Okpebholo's government who does not want his name in print due to the sensitive nature of the matter, went to town with the report of Okpebholo's planned removal of a Benin man to be replaced with Edo North man.
Observers have asked, why will Benins, who constitute a larger population in Edo and shows excellence on the job, politically and otherwise be sacrificed all the time for others?—the other day, Felix Isere of Benin extraction was slaughtered for an Auchi man, and now it is Samson Osagie.
"Okpebholo must thread with caution—we are not against him empowering others, but we kick strongly against deliberate and conscious attempts to continually relegate the Benins who naturally are very peaceful, detribalized and brings a lot to the table—a pan-Benin socio-cultural organization, N'Edo Gha Ma, reacted.
