We have received with rude shock reports of the painful passing of our brother and son, Solomon Arase, a former Inspector General of the Nigerian Police Force, who led with dignity, passion and consideration.

Arase will be remembered by many as that one Officer who had significant respect for human dignity—he detested oppression, suppression and intimidation, and was ever ready, willing and able to rescue anyone from the fangs of oppression, even by his brother-officers.

Solomon Ehigiator Arase, born June 21, 1956, in Owan West, Edo State, is a respected retired Nigerian Police officer with an outstanding record in law enforcement and public service.

Enlisted into the Nigeria Police Force in 1981 and served in various Departments of the Force including Operations, Investigation, Administration and Intelligence.

During his service years, Arase served as the Principal Staff Officer (PSO) to a record three different Inspectors-General of Police between 2002 -2008 and was at a time, the Commissioner of Police, Akwa Ibom State Police Command. Until his appointment as the 18th indigenous Inspector-General of Police on 22nd April, 2015.

At the homefront, Arase enjoy significant goodwill, considering his numerous interventions on matters bordering on the security and safety of Edo people, and by extension, the State.

An exceptional, remarkable and quintessential Officer, who rose through the ranks to become IGP—maintaining a record of selfless contributions to Police reforms.

The Edo-born former IGP will be sorely missed by Edo people, Nigerians, and particularly the Nigerian Police Force where he diligently plied his trade until retirement in June 2016.

Rest on, our dear brother and son.
