Don Pedro Obaseki's heroic display amidst life-threaning attack, humiliation and barbarism mented on him by a mob this morning in Benin City, the Edo State capital, shows the overwhelming strength of character and charismatic ingenuity our brother and son possesses
Age, experience, exposure, family, investments alongside other positive endeavours over the years, are remarkable indices that shapes the character and behaviour of a man—Don Pedro Obaseki has displayed a character and disposition suggestive of a man with a great, beautiful, and robust future ahead of him, for which must not be jeopardized on the altar of senseless retaliation—rather to constructively set the record straight that he, Don Pedro, is not opposed to the Benin throne.
While a man is charged to defend himself and family against external aggression, the primary and most important thing to do is to build that security around himself and family that tells a potential aggressor(s), beware—and if in the event the aggressor(s) breaches that security, then the long arms of the law must be invoked against such despicable and threatening act, otherwise the aggressor(s) may be subjected to public ridicule.
Don Pedro Obaseki has shown just now to be a man of conviction—despite the unsolicited intimidation, brutalization and dehumanization he faced this morning, he stayed a hero—unbent, unbound, unbroken.
Those thugs who have become regular perpetrators of hooliganism, lawlessness and brigandage are the real losers—cowards lacking the mental and moral constructs to engage Don Pedro in the most civilized manner.
The hooliganism exhibited this morning by self-styled defenders of the Kingdom does not represent the character of the Benins—their approach is barbaric and does not signpost the authentic story of the resilient Benin man.
This morning's action by the mob is nothing but primitive, reflective of people who thinks themselves heros, unknowing to them that they actually are cowards with no capacity to maintain productive, healthy public engagements.
If a hero were to emerge from this morning's situation, it cannot be said to be the thugs who invaded Don Pedro's footballing experience in Uwa Primary School—they already recklessly placed themselves in a situation that they will remain apologetic to Don for the rest of their natural life.
The true hero is Don Pedro—for his genuine understanding of the workings of his environment, and maintaining admirable calm in the face of attack, intimidation, harassment—you are the true hero.
Consequently, we urge you, our dear brother and son, to remain strong and undaunted, resolute and unshaken, sincere and focused, believing strongly that no man born of a woman, not a thousand of thugs, can dim the light and undo the task God has set—enemies may come, solicited or unsolicited, known or unknown, you must continue to defeat them with admirable calm, self-recognition, silence, purpose, and most importantly, success.
Your pursuit of success for self, family, friends, and community, and the overall development of your socio-econonic, political and psychological persona must be seen to consistently occupy the frontburner of your everyday agenda, the true test of a man's character is the convinctions he exhibits about his opinion on issues and how unapologetic he stands on his belief—and as you continue to express your beliefs, opinions and convinctions on happenings, it is natural to have people who want to deliberately disagree with you—do not let their angered disagreements dissuade you from the path of truth you stand.
We know those who speak truth for what it is—for us, we know you stand on the side of truth, regardless.
Despite the unmerited attack on you—the calm, the resilience, the self-control and co-ordination which you exhibited, swallowing what you didn't bargain for is heroic.
Stay strong, stay resolute, continue to speak truth—indeed, you are unbent, unbound, and you are unbroken.
