Former Governor of Edo State, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has mourned the passing of Mrs. Rebecca Aikhomu, wife of the late Admiral Augustus Aikhomu, former Chief of General Staff of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Obaseki, in a condolence statement on Thursday, said, “I received with sadness the news of the passing of Mrs. Rebecca Aikhomu, the wife of the late Admiral Augustus Aikhomu.”
Describing her as an exceptional woman, Obaseki noted: “Mrs. Aikhomu was an exceptional woman whose quiet strength, dignity, selfless service and commitment to family earned her the respect and admiration of all who knew her.”
He added that his long-standing relationship with the Aikhomu family made her death a personal loss.
He added, “Over the years, I have maintained a warm and respectful relationship with the Aikhomu family, and her passing is a deeply personal loss, not only to the family but to all of us who valued her grace and wisdom.”
Obaseki further highlighted her life of humility and compassion, noting that she embodied values that made the Aikhomu household a symbol of integrity and leadership.
“Her life was defined by humility, compassion, and dedication to the values that made the Aikhomu household a pillar of integrity and leadership in our state and nation,” he said.
“She supported her late husband with remarkable devotion and continued to embody the virtues of discipline, kindness, and resilience long after his passing.”
The former governor extended his condolences to the bereaved family, praying for strength and comfort.
“I extend my heartfelt condolences to the Aikhomu family and all who are grieving this irreplaceable loss. May the Almighty grant them strength and comfort in this difficult moment, and may her gentle soul rest in perfect peace,” Obaseki added.
