Members of the Edo Civil Society Organisation (EDOCSO) were on Thursday, September 24, 2026, at the Ikpoba-Okha Magistrate Court, Idogbo, in solidarity with their colleague, Kabiru Mohammed, and other northern Nigerians engaged in metal scrap businesses in Edo State.
The group had earlier been brought before the court in August 2026 following allegations made against them. According to EDOCSO, the men were arrested and taken to court after allegedly refusing to pay money demanded in connection with their bail.
Following its intervention in the matter, EDOCSO said its legal department became involved and secured bail for the affected men through the court.
The matter was initially adjourned after no complainant was available during the first hearing.
EDOCSO members returned to the court on Thursday to follow the proceedings and support their colleagues. However, they said the court did not sit as expected, and the case was subsequently adjourned to November 17, 2026, for further proceedings.
Speaking on the development, EDOCSO commended its legal team for continuing to represent the men and pursue the matter through the appropriate judicial process.
The organisation particularly praised Barrister Joseph Odii for his involvement in the case and his continued commitment to representing the defendants.
EDOCSO said it would continue to monitor the proceedings and ensure that its members receive legal representation throughout the case.
The organisation reiterated its commitment to defending the rights of residents and business operators in Edo State while calling for due process and respect for the rule of law.
The next hearing is scheduled for November 17, 2026.
