Father Believes School Bullying Led to 15-Year-Old Son Being Shot Dead on His Way to School in the Bronx

Crusaderhotnews

THE BRONX, NEW YORK — A grieving father is seeking justice after his 15-year-old son was shot and killed while walking to school in the Bronx, in a tragedy he believes may be linked to bullying the teenager had experienced at school.

The victim, identified as Javits Frimpong, was fatally shot in the stomach shortly before 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, October 29, 2026, near East 171st Street and Crotona Place in the Claremont neighbourhood of the Bronx.

According to the New York Police Department (NYPD), officers responded to reports of a shooting and found the teenager suffering from a gunshot wound. He was rushed to St. Barnabas Hospital, where he later died.

Javits' father, Thomas Frimpong, believes his son's killing may have been connected to repeated bullying at DreamYard Preparatory School.

Speaking to local media, Thomas said his son had complained several times about being harassed by another student, particularly during lunchtime.

He revealed that the school's principal had contacted him just days before the shooting to inform him that two students had allegedly been involved in an incident with his son and had been suspended.

According to the father, Javits had repeatedly reported the bullying to school authorities but continued experiencing difficulties.

Thomas suspects the shooting could have been retaliation following the suspensions, although police have not confirmed any connection between the alleged bullying and the killing.

The devastated father described Javits as a quiet, intelligent and well-behaved boy who rarely went out and regularly attended school.

He said he brought his son from Ghana to the United States in 2025, hoping to give him better opportunities and a brighter future.

Javits reportedly dreamed of becoming a doctor.

CCTV footage shows teenager being chased

Surveillance footage from the neighbourhood reportedly shows the teenager running along the street as another individual dressed in black appears to chase him.

Moments later, the person turns around while Javits collapses further down the street.

Police are searching for three teenage males, believed to be between 16 and 18 years old, who were reportedly seen fleeing the area wearing black clothing and blue surgical masks.

Investigators have not established what prompted the shooting or whether Javits was specifically targeted.

As of November 1, no arrests had been reported.

Ghanaian community demands justice

The teenager's death has sparked grief and outrage among residents and members of the Ghanaian community in New York.

A candlelight vigil was held in his memory, with religious leaders, neighbours and community members gathering to mourn his death and call for an end to youth violence.

Ghana's Foreign Affairs Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, condemned the killing and pledged that the government would work towards ensuring justice for the family.

In another development, New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani announced that US President Donald Trump had agreed to facilitate an immediate visa for Javits' mother, who remains in Ghana, to travel to New York and mourn her son.

The development would allow the grieving mother to reunite with her family during an incredibly painful period.

Father appeals for justice

For Thomas Frimpong, the loss of his son has left a devastating emptiness.

He had brought Javits to America believing he was giving him an opportunity to build a better life. Instead, the teenager's future was cut short while he was simply making his way to school.

The father is appealing for anyone with information about the shooting to assist investigators in identifying those responsible.

Police are urging anyone with information to contact the NYPD Crime Stoppers hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477).

The investigation remains ongoing.

While the father believes bullying may have contributed to his son's death, authorities have yet to establish a motive or confirm that the shooting was connected to the alleged school harassment.
