warns against defacing public facilities, obstruction of stormwater drains
Edo State Acting Governor, Rt. Hon. Comrade Philip Shaibu, has urged students of Ihogbe College and Akenzua Secondary School in Benin City, to shun social vices such as cultism.
Shaibu admonished the students when he visited both schools located along ICE Road, in Benin City on Wednesday. The acting governor’s visit followed a recent attack on students at the two school by suspected cult groups.
While interacting with the principals and prefects of both schools, Shaibu tasked the teachers to mentor their students on good behaviour and brotherly love.
Shaibu gave directives for the damaged fence separating both schools to be fixed and urged the Divisional Police Officer in the area to ensure security surveillance within the premises of the school.
He said members of the Public Works Volunteer (PUWOV) scheme would be deployed to the schools to provide internal security.
Principal, Ihogbe College (Senior Secondary), Mr. Williams Iyekekpolo, decried the activities of hoodlums in the schools which he said led to carting away of the schools’ equipment.
The students and principals appealed for a functional security structure to protect the school from hoodlums.
Two students, who were apprehended for alleged cult activities and forcefully obtaining phones from their fellow students, were paraded before the acting governor.
The acting governor also visited the Uwelu Spare Parts market, where he commended traders for complying with the state government's directive on the removal of damaged vehicles from the roadside to give way for construction of parking spaces.
Shaibu promised to meet with the leadership of the market to deliberate with them on strategies to resolve all issues affecting traders in the market. He also promised that construction work would commence soon in a section of Uwelu Road, to make it motorable.
While inspecting the stormwater project in the area, Shaibu cautioned residents to desist from dumping refuse into the drains.
