The 2019 Presidential election may have come and gone officially with President Muhammadu Buhari declared winner having polled more votes to defeat the closest opposition of the Peoples Democratic party, Atiku Abubarkar.
Just before dawn on Wednesday, February 27, 2019 the Chairman, Independent Electoral Commission, Professor Mahmood Yakubu declared the winner with President Buhari of APC, Polling, 15,191,847 votes, to beat Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who secured 11,262,978 votes.
The result margins is being contested at the tribunal by the main opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, alleging that it was a fraudulent victory
The news of APC's victory and losing some states have generated mix reactions across board.
The permutations from a lay man's view expect that a sitting governor should deliver a large number of votes in his state.
In Edo State, the story was the same considering the electioneering promises of the Governor to deliver at least a million votes for President Buhari.
But the Governor was embraced to a humiliating defeat which according to some party men is a testimony of his leadership styles.
Barely a week after the result of the presidential and National Assembly elections the Governor had summoned leaders of the party he trusted to win in large margins to an emergency dialogue meetings.
Although the indiginated governor had accused some party leaders of anti party activities informed by some money collected from opposition party to work against the party.
Some members who spoke on anonymous blamed the Governor for his believes to allow some party leaders redundancy play out which hardly defined the direction of the party.
An angry party leader in Oredo ward 4 who disclose to inquest news said: “You drove away Shaba, Tony Kabaka, Osakpanmwan Eriyo that you don’t need them in the party, all of them stood hands akimbo and watched the party lose in Edo south. infact Shaba left the party few weeks ago and the governor was not bothered.
“Before then, prominent members of the party like Chief Osamede Adun from Oredo left, our very strong leaders Mr and Mrs Omagbon who were pillars of the party in Ovia left the party and you think it was a fluke?
"The governor did not do anything to bring these people back rather he said their departure was a good omen.
“Where were the leaders of APC in Edo south on election day? Where was Hon Samson Osagie who rose to become minority whip during the 2015 general elections?
“Whereas Oredo local government alone had the governor himself, Secretary of the party, Lawrence Okah, the Attorney General of the state, Professor Yinka Omoregbe, chairman of SUBEB, Joan Oviawe, Nigerian Ambassador to Mozambique, Uyi Igbe, Minister of State for Health, Professor Osagie Ehanire former Attorney General of the state and several others, we still lost Oredo.
"We have similar personalities in Egor and Ikpoba-Okha people like former Attorney General, Henry Idahagbon, former deputy governor, Lucky Imasuen, Gentleman Amegor, Matthew Iduoriyekenmwen and several others and we still lost, is that a clear indication that something was seriously wrong."
THE ALLEGED MISSING 250, 000.00 DISBURSED ON THE EVE OF ELECTION
In another development, a prominent leader revealed that some monies to the tune of two hundred and fifty thousand naira disbursed to each unit to fortify the party's winning strategy landed in individuals pocket.
The source also revealed that in Oredo ward 3, there are 30 polling units and ward 2 with 38 polling units as the largest in Oredo Local government Council
They alleged that on the eve of the election, the said amount was passed through the office of the secretary of the party and the Special Adviser to the state government on political matters who allegedly diverted the flying monies to help themselves against the party's quest to win the election.
This has become a sequential occurrence in political space and across political divides. Trust me no one is a saint!
CIRCLE OF THE BLACK THORN OBASEKI MUST WATCH CLOSELY
These members of the circle act as the earthly instruments of the Senior Partners, charged with being the driving force behind Wolfram & Hart's apocalyptic plans and dedicated to keeping the wheel of "man's inhumanity to man" perpetually spinning.
The members of the Circle do this not from a belief in evil per se, but because being a Black Thorn allows them to amass power for themselves and wield that power with impunity.
Whatever they say to the Senior Partner, he believes because the senior partner may have spent over eight years in the state politics but may not be too conversant with how the story falls hence the need to find those who could give him the right ambience.
The reality in this politicking war is that the Governor must commence a new strategic plan to oust those behind the circle of black thorn pretending to be donning the superior Jersey in his favor.
THE FURIOUS OBASEKI STORMS OUT OF AN AFTERMATH MEETING.
The resultant meeting held to identify the course of the Woeful defeat ended in deadlock with the Governor furiously storming out of the meeting.
His decision may not have been done on a personal ground, but to steer the wheel of the progressive to victory.
Speaking at the meeting with APC leaders, Obaseki said he was shocked at how party leaders sabotaged the party at the presidential polls.
A source, who spoke anonymously to newsmen, stated that all present at the meeting were surprised as the governor was visibly angry.
“We were shocked when Obaseki started talking. He revealed so many things. He said he was shocked how the leaders sabotaged his efforts. Obaseki asked them if it was his reelection that is how he would have lost.
“The Governor spoke to a point that he threw away the microphone. None of the leaders uttered any word in defence. He has said he would deal with them."the source stated.
However, Governor Godwin Obaseki, says he would punish party members who worked against the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the presidential and National Assembly election.
Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) won in Edo State, despite APC's being in charge of affairs in the state.
Obaseki was said to have set up a 25-man committee to ensure APC’s victory in the state Assembly election where they eventually won the 24 seats to prove a bargain.
2020 ED0 GUBERNATORIAL
Politics aside, Governor Obaseki in the last two and a half years of his administration has proved the bookmakers wrong against all odd. By the general view, his determination to rebrand the infrastructural development is a plus to the state.
Also, his administration has improved the road networks in the state. Within two years, the new APC administration has resurfaced, reconstructed and is still constructing over 1000km of roads across the state.
So many roads within Benin City metropolis and beyond have either been maintained, resurfaced or reconstructed.
Brand new road projects as advised in one of my articles when setting agenda for Obaseki to take traffic away from the city centre such as the Iriri-Aruogba through to Sapele road is being constructed and Setraco has been mobilised to site and work is in progress.
Drainages have been completed on both sides of the road and asphalting has commenced.
Contract for Ugbor- Amagba-Ogunmeyin road have been awarded.
Same for Saint-Saviour and Evbotubu has been lined up for attention.
This may give Obaseki the opportunity to complete the project if given the next four years.
Ordinarily, the governor's name ring a bell with common man in the street owing largely to his performances. But the party determines what happens through its primary elections.
Going by the performances, it is expected to see an easy ride but first, he must overcome the ganged up by the leaders who have complained of neglect on his part.
The second phase of the Governor Akunwumi Ambode's script may be repeated here in Edo State.
It was further revealed by a close source that a certain APC member have been going around lobbying delegates over the governor's reelection bid while the Governor has embarked on mandatory leave abroad.
With the Governor said to have visited some party bigwigs to quell the move by the former governor, Adams Oshiomhole to replace Obaseki, which we were reliably told he was ordered to resolve the internal conflict with the national chairman of the party who seems to have been dissatisfied with the Governor.
While Edo people savour some of the successes recorded thus far, one cannot but advise the governor and his team to ensure the strict implementation of the outcome in the next gubernatorial election
Obaseki must be allowed to focus on creating the right environment for people of the state and their friends both within and outside the country to do business.
The Governor must be careful with the circle of the black thorn who may not have the will power to wool electorate but prefers to hijack the system for their selfishness.
Obaseki must seek to embrace those that can deliver the votes and pacify them with relevant positions to completely lockout vulnerable party leaders who have nothing to offer.
Edo people will have to stand with a performer with a view to sustain his developmental strides which will completely haul out greedy political leaders in the state.
