For a sane society, discipline is when we replace what distract us with something that have huge impact in our day to day operational existence.
Saliently, if ever there were other words attributed or responsible for more progress than any other words, it would be the word discipline.
The truth is that, we are all experts at discipline. Although, some of us are disciplined in making progress, while others are disciplined at staying stuck and moving backward.
Assuming we desire to max out life, discipline must be understood in other to be leveraged to its full capacity.
In today's strained economy and social deficiency, Governor Godwin Obaseki, has remained clear about his objectives and goals which seem to be stripling away endless distractions, extraneous activities and numbing agents that pulled away from the things that will promote real progress.
This notable notch for hard work and credibility, has redefined the directionality of governance grinded in policy engagements and extreme zeal to whether storms of fiscal profligacy and uncut Society.
In the time past, an average man in the street was stocked in lawlessness and hardly would anyone believes that this irrupt trends will stop.
The Governor on assumption of office back in 2016, knew about the task ahead having been part of the action plans where he carefully studied the governance amidst the expected outcome.
The focal drive of this administration was built around six thematic areas; which are Economic Revolution, Culture and Tourism, Environmental Sustainability, Welfare Enhancement, Infrastructure Development and Institutional Reform knowing that if he allows distraction, he may find it hard to come by.
He was clearly aware that during healthy times, there would be no margins for distraction and room to entertain things that wouldn't directly contribute to what is critical.
He smartly outlined some of those banana peels he would have to avoid to make exceptional and radical change to bring governance to the people.
To governor Obaseki, instilling discipline was his first priority to persuade investors to the economy of the state.
Although, this priority took out couple of weeks to affix, but guess what, it became a new way of life through persuasiveness by the task force set aside to curb the uninformed act within the city centre.
Evidently, Obaseki has endeared himself to Edo people as regards restoration of law and order, roads construction, youth’s empowerment and institutional reforms.
Arguably, stepping on huge toes wasn't going to be snip of a finger tip, but what must be done has to be done to achieve a process.
The catalog of traffics around the ringroad, new Benin, Third junction, ramat park and the city four walls got a new leave of life.
The dramatic Vehicular movement improvements across the city periphery, is one of the legacy our generation must live with.
A clear indications, was the now crashed illicit street trading that now has pedestal's movement taken fewer minutes to connect a choice direction.
This absolutely brought about free and flow traffic that received recommendations among inhabitant and supporters.
This also extended to the age long illegal collection of tax by various unregistered thugs and few individuals who became Masters in their own rights.
These thugs invaded every length and breath of the state and Nobody move until they say so. Even the "professors" was ready to dump their certificates into the trash can for this unrefined job.
It was unrefined though, but for their leaders in the set up, there was serious competition between the rising billionaires in the declaration of a billion Naira milestone savings in their account.
All thanks to the illegal swindling of taxes collected to privates pocket which had adverse effect whilst further impoverished the local government accounts that probably led to council worker salaries being perpetually owned.
The sanity and positive effect this proscription has brought about is aptly commendable across political divides.
Not done, until this moment, there was a rising tension caused by the outlawed Community Development Association, CDA,over unceremonious land grabbing which brought untold hardship to the cooperate existence of the people.
In a seeming awakening of the tourism sector in Edo State on the back of ease of doing business reforms of the Governor Godwin Obaseki-led administration, tourism has taken a front lead.
Recently, 50 African American tourists arrived Benin City, the state capital, to trace their origin.
The tour which was organized in pat, to showcase the common ancestral heritage is a pilgrimage by the African-Americans to rediscover their ancestral heritage with the Binis from where they were taken away more than 400 years ago.
It is an emotional visit that have given a clear indications on the government efforts.
It is of note that, tourism has the potential to grow the economy of the state, evidently some countries have grown their economy with tourist receipts as they receive almost a million tourists on a monthly basis.
Governor, Godwin Obaseki's administration is undertaking a holistic review of the state’s basic education curriculum with a view to including subjects that will assist in grooming pupils to fit properly into the information age.
Obaseki, who described education as a tool to develop the nation, added that subjects such as Career Development, History, Guidance and Counselling, Ethics and Morality were part of the new subjects included in the state’s new basic education curriculum.
In his words; “We want to use education to build a total human being so that at the completion of junior secondary school education, a child can know what he or she wants to become in life and should fit properly into the society
Housing is another plan which the administration has focused on. The government believes that housing is a necessity for mankind and it see the development as one to boost construction and create jobs.
Today, the Obasekis led adminstration has restructured the Edo State Property Development Agency to become business-oriented which has opened the door for more private investors in the housing sector.
It would be recalled that, the existing housing estate was built 16 years ago.
Within the last year, the government has started the construction of Emotam Garden Estate and Over 60 units have been constructed with a view to construct 100 units. before Christmas.
To achieve a Milestone in governance, this administration is also focusing on professionalism of the Edo State public service.
It has established a public service training academy. The facility will be able to take 500 people at a time.
The challenge in getting government to work is because we neglected training. If we keep sustained training programme for our public servants, they will perform better and the government will be rewarded for aptly doing so.
So therefore, training and retraining is an integral part of good governance
To critics of Obaseki, the several MoUs entered into by Obaseki were meaningless and not achieving desired results
But, with the desired tone established thus far, and the governor's reinforced vision for the various sectors of the state, namely; education, infrastructure, health, agriculture, job and wealth creation, among others, and with the continuous review of the processes and procedures, critics have no option than to join hands to better Edo people and residents in the state.
Negative critics should know that, by some of the sterling initiatives of the present administration, distractions have been replaced with impacts
