The Ikpoba-Okha Local Government has completed the evacuation of mountainous waste accumulated in Ekiomwenigho in Ward 7 of the LGA
The waste which had accumulated as a result of reckless abandon by previous administrations had until Dr. Eric Osayande's intervention occupied a larger part of the market, creating an unfavourable business environment for the traders
The eidemy has over the years derailed economic activities around the market facility as consumers found the market unhealthy for shopping
Recall that the Council Boss had upon assumption of duty March 5, 2018 designed a refuse evacuation/environmental impact assessment template for his administration which include but not limited to, constant removal of waste from markets and public places, prohibition of roadside trading across markets in the locality, construction of toilets and boreholes in all markets in Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area, expansion of markets in the LGA
This programme is currently evident in all markets built by the Council Chairman such as Ologbo Market Ward 10, Oregbeni Market Ward 2, Ikpe Market Ward 8, Dumez Road Market Ward 6, Ohovbe Market Ward 3, Urora Market Ward 4, Ogheghe Market Ward 9, Okha and Ekiomwenigho Markets in Wards 9 and 7 respectively amongst others
In a statement conveyed through WhatsApp to the Council Chairman's Press Secretary, Eseosa Ewere, by the Supervisory Councilor for Health and Environment, Ikpoba-Okha Local Government, Hon. Diamond Ogieriakhi on Monday February 17, 2020 from the site of evacuation, "the decades heap of refuse have been totally evacuated at Ekiomwenigho Market, there is still need for serious control of indiscriminate dumping of waste/refuse"
Dr. Eric Osayande, had last year completed the contract for the evacuation of waste from Ekiomwenigho Market to registered waste managers who are due to handle the next and subsequent evacuation exercises, the waste managers will be expected to work within the already-existing template established by the Osayande-led administration in 2018; this is aimed at ensuring a reduction of refuse at the market to the bearest minimum
Dr. Eric Osayande has reiterated his total commitment to creating a healthy and viable environment for trading through innovative programmes for the good of the generalilty of Ikpoba-Okha people
