The ravaging COVID-19 has no doubt altered global trajectory as political activities world over continue now take back seat with world leaders battling to save their citizens from been crushed by the pandemic; renowned miracle-working clergys seem to have lose guard and do not know which verse(s), portion(s) of the holy book to subscribe to in the destruction of the novel disease; churches, mosques and other temples where people hitherto congregated to worship God has been shut down as part of measures to minimize a possible spread; businesses have close down, banks, oil and gas, insurance, car manufacturing companies, others now operate skeletally, officials are even advised to work from home; in a Country like Nigeria where working from home is not a norm, the economic loss is expected to be exponential, except for food and medicals, other ventures now suffer an unexpected tragedy
Going by the happenstances occasioned by the outbreak of COVID-19, one may say that a new world order may be underway; however, should we survive this pandemic and come out alive, lessons from the outbreak of CORONAVIRUS will be critical in shapening our collective and individual orientations, particularly our interpersonal relationships and our opinion on global events - politics, business, religion etc
As a "political animal", I am personally bemused how COVID-19 has humbled world powers like the United States of America, Russia, France, Germany, China (now back to business), Japan and the rest of the world, a biological development which actual origin remains largely uncertain, as world economies continue to experience exponential decline, and super powers grapple to save their people
In Africa particularly, the last two (2) week has seen to a drastic increase in Countries now ridiculed by the pandemic; our greatest worry will be, how Africa with her limited health, education and financial resources, couple with her asynchronous political structure will be able to grapple with the drastic effects of COVID-19; as at Friday April 3rd, 2020, in Nigeria alone, there has been over 190 cases, Guinea 22, Cameroon 73, Morocco 54, Egypt 86, while Algeria and South Africa holds a record of 139 and 82 respectively (http://support.scoopernews.com/towing/en.html?media=phoenix)
The index is expected to skyrocket even with drastic measures on the ground; the COVID-19 seems to me a template for a new world order building in the human race a new way of thinking
It is however a long, tortuous battle between global popularity, political superiority, economic firepower and world relevance
Africa will not be able to manage the exponential damage that the virus will bring, she will need the support of advanced democracies should they (advance democracies) be able to stabilize
China desires to build new allies across the shores of Africa, but the African continent must be strategic enough to critically analyse every goodwill that may originate from the Chinese community at a time like this of great despair; if what we hear of the contamination of COVID-19 prevention kits is anything to go by, then Nigeria and the rest of Africa might need to synchronize the continent's political structure in the fight against CORONAVIRUS, poverty, corruption and destructive politics which of course has been the bane of Africa's underdevelopment
In the European continent, Italy, Spain and other middle-power Countries now gradually recovering from the scourge are already advocating self-determination; they are determined to leverage on their limited material and natural resources for the overall development of their people; agriculture may now begin to take preeminence over and above other critical sectors as shortage of food and drugs will spell doom for the global community; the losses in the political, religious and business sectors will be hard to recoup; where churches are reported to have lost over N8billion in tithes and offerings; businesses have lost billions, while the government sector now more of a conference arrangement loses trillions per day, indeed the COVID-19 pandemic at the end of it all, would have restructured the way we think
It is now more than crystal clear that we have no control over our lives and as a people, we can only do our best to shapen our communities and where natural forces does not permit, man is incapacitated, powerless, ignorant; an opinion that the outbreak of the novel COVID-19 has reinforced humbling the business, political and religious communities, compelling the human race to devise new strategies, indeed CORONAVIRUS, first identified in Wuhan, China in December 2019 is a proof of man's inability to contain certain complexities, while deferring to natural tendencies in the search for sustainable solutions
