Court sentences Man,28, for defiling a 10-year-old minor

Benin, June 11, 2020 (NAN) A Family Court, in Benin on Thursday sentenced man, Mohammed Aliu, 28, to 10 years imprisonment for defiling a Ten-year-old girl.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Adamaigbo Dorothy sentenced the defendant, after he had pleaded guilty to the one count charge of defilement.

Earlier, the state Prosecutor, Mary Imhodemhe told the Court that the accused committed the offence May 23, at Evbukuh community, along Sapele road, Benin

He said on the said date the defendant threatened to stab the minor, thereby  unlawfully defiled the 10 years old girl

According to the prosecution, the offence contravened section 218 of the Criminal Code , Cap 48,Vol. II, Laws of the defunct Bendel state of Nigeria 1976 as applicable in Edo.

Consequently, the Chief Magistrate  found the defendant guilty and sentenced him to 10 years imprisonment based on the convict’s statement and evidence of medical report on the victim. (NAN)
