Democracy Day: Aisowieren calls for improved participation

Crusaderhotnews

Rt. Hon. Patrick Aisowieren MHR for Orhionmwon/Uhunmwode Federal Constituency has called for collective efforts by the citizenry and sacrifice by the leadership in moving Nigeria's democracy forward.

Aisowieren recounts the growing participation of citizens since 1999 and called for more effective participation in the selection of leaders as such is the only way to own the power that democracy bestows on the people.

He frowned at voters' apathy in the selection and election process that throws up leaders believing that we are all liable for the kind of leaders that we produce as democracy confers the destiny of a nation on her voters.

The lawmaker continued that, "the soul of democracy is in the orientation of its voters. They decide who leads and who shouldn't. The more informed their participation, the better their collective ability to checkmate leaders and throw up their best."

"I encourage Nigerians today, to put in more efforts in mobilizing the entire voting populace to seek and use the powers that is entirely theirs as nobody owns democracy more than the other."

The lawmaker ceased the opportunity to admonish leaders at all levels of democracy to be subject to the law as the growth of Nigeria's democracy is being hampered by those who wish to be stronger than the constitution when in actual sense power is transient and institutions are growth bound.

He congratulated Nigerians particularly his constituents for another year recorded in democracy and wish them indefinite years of steady progress that comes with democracy.
