For several years, gangs of criminals, known locally as Armed Bandits, have operated ceaselessly in most forests in Edo State, thereby, spreading fear among local communities and Commuters plying the route.
In an attempt to stop the mass kidnapping and other related violent crimes around the state's forests, the commandant, Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps NSCDC, Edo State Command, Aniekan Udoeyup, is charging members of the paramilitary groups to join efforts in clearing out few criminal elements terrorizing the state as kidnappers.
Udoeyup, who was speaking at a one-day Sensitization event held recently at the State Command, opined that, they are now ready to take the fight to the forests, where the few criminal elements had been operating.
He warned that, allowing criminals to continue to carryout all forms of kidnappings and dastards' acts within the forest in Edo state, would mean, an inroad to food scarcity, due to fear created by them, around locals who are unable to assess their farm's produce.
While lamenting the untold hardships occasioned by the rising insecurity, which he noted, has stemmed food shortages in the markets, he urged, members of other paramilitary groups, local hunters, Vigilante groups, as well as community leaders to collaborate in it bids to wage war against Kidnappers.
Heads of various paramilitary groups, including forest guards, Edo State Security Network, ESN, Local Hunters and other relevant Stakeholders who attended the one-day Sensitization event voiced their concerns over what they brandished, outdated weapons, assigned them to combat a well organized and equipped criminals with modern fire arms as very discouraging.
The State Coordinator, ESN, Dr Emmanuel otoide oboh, decried various treatments melted on his men during operations, just as he seeks support from the authority and residents to enable them confront and conquer barriers.
This is probably, the first collaborative efforts put in Place within the Paramilitary Paraphernalia in Edo State for years, to curb security challenges, following the recent struggles by Security agents to curtail, worsening violence in the state.
