The President of the social cultural organization, Esan Youths Organization, Comr. Kingsley Ohens, has cautioned against division within forces in Edo Central district, if the region must produce the next Edo governor by 2024.
He stated this on Wednesday during a press interview with newsmen at Opoji his home town in Esan Central LGA of the state.
He added, Edo Central district, is inhabited by the Esan ethnic nationality, and they strongly believe it is their time to produce the next governor going by an unwritten “gentleman’s agreement” on power rotation in the state.
Comr. Ohens, who is also a positive change agent, Nigeria activist/ blogger and community development facilitator, further told Journalists that the primary concern of the Esan People of Edo State now is to produce the next governor by 2024 and not to bicker over what axis the governor should come from in the region.
According to him “Our concern now should be that the next governor should come from Edo Central, and where the person come from within the district is not a priority.
The governor can come from anywhere in the Edo central, and that is my concern and the wish of Esan Youth Organization. We believe that as a people of Edo Central, anybody who is qualified can contest for governor ahead of 2024.
“We will not discriminate against anybody from the district, because we are all in Edo Central and that is the important thing.
We want to concern ourselves now that the governor must come from Edo Central, whether he’s from Esan North East, Esan South East, Esan Central, Esan West or Igueben axis is not our concern as long the governor comes from Edo Central.
We should not descend to that low level of fighting over which axis in Edo Central should get it.
Our primary concern is to go for who is best qualified and capable to be governor from the district.
Comr. Ohens however advised politicians from the senatorial district to rally round themselves, unite and speak with one voice to ensure that the zone produce the next governor by 2024.
He noted that the zone has prominent individuals, politicians, and political gladiators who are qualified to govern the state as from 2024.
He insisted that it is regrettable that since the creation of Edo State, the zone has only produced the governor of the state just for just 18 months.
But expresses hope that an Edo governor of Esan Extraction is due to emerge in the 2024 gubernatorial election in the state.
