Zone 5 Command Headquarters, Benin City wishes to inform the general public and the good people of Delta and Edo States that a new Assistant Inspector-General of Police has been deployed to the Zone which comprises Delta and Edo State Police Commands. He is *AIG Lawan Tanko Jimeta, psc* and he assumed duty on 13th January, 2022, after taking over from *AIG. Ahmad AbdurRahman, mni* who has been redeployed to the Nigeria Police Academy, Wudil, Kano State.
2. AIG Lawan Tanko Jimeta, psc was born on 9th September, 1964 in Jimeta, Yola North Local Government Area of Adamawa State.
He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Language from the University of Maiduguri; and a Masters degree in Peace and Conflict Studies from the National Open University.
3. AIG. Lawan Tanko Jimeta, psc enlisted into the Nigeria Police Force on 3rd March, 1990 as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police and was trained in the Nigeria Police Academy Annex, Kaduna State.
He has served in various capacities which include: Operations Officer; Orita Challenge Police Division, Ibadan, Oyo State Command, Personal Assistant to the Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Department of Training and Development, FHQ Annex, Lagos State.
Divisional Crime Officer, Victoria Island Police Division, Lagos, Divisional Crime Officer, Maroko Police Division, Lagos. Operations Officer, Security Intelligence Bureau, FHQ Annex, Lagos.
CSP Administration, SIB/CIB, FHQ Annex, Lagos; Chief of Training, Directorate or Peace-keeping, FHQ, Abuja; Area Commander, Suleja, Niger State Command.
Deputy Director and then later Director, Directorate of Peace-keeping, FHQ, Abuja. Deputy Commissioner of Police, Zonal Operations Department, Zone 7 Headquarters, Abuja.
Commissioner of Police, Central Criminal Registry, FCIID, FHQ, Abuja. Commissioner of Police, Police Mobile Force, FHQ, Abuja, the Commissioner of Police, Edo State Police Command, Benin City, Commissioner of Police, Bauchi State Police Command, before his redeployment as the 21st Commandant of the Nigeria Police Academy, Wudil, Kano State, where he was later promoted to the prestigious rank of an Assistant Inspector-General of Police.
4. The AIG's career is closely linked to training and mentorship in the field of security intelligence and peace support operations. He has trained numerous Police personnel at the Nigeria Police Detective College, Enugu, the Nigeria Police Directorate of Peace-keeping and United Nations Multi-dimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali.
AIG Lawan Tanko Jimeta's involvement in Peace-keeping Operations started way back in June, 1996, when as a Deputy Superintendent of Police, he was part of the contingent of the Nigeria Police Force to Bosnia and Herzegovina, since then he has been involved in so many Peace-keeping Operations accross the world which include: African-Led Multi-dimension Support Mission in Mali (AFISMA); United Nations Multi-dimensional Mission in Mali (MINUSMA); United Nations Integrated Mission in Timor (UNMIT); United Nations Mission in Liberia (UNMIL). The AIG has also served as a one time member of the prestigious African Union Police Strategic Group at the AU Headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
5. In the course of his career, the AIG has attended some professional courses both home and abroad. These include: the Advance Detective Course at the Police Staff College, Jos. An international course on Protection of VIP and vital installation at the Mubarak Police Academy, Cairo, Egypt. An international course in Peace-keeping and International Conflict Resolution at the United Nations Institute for Training and Research, Geneva, Switzerland. A course in International Humanitarian Law and Law of armed conflict also at UNITAR, Switzerland.
6. Finally, AIG Lawan Tanko Jimeta, psc is on his way to a landmark place as Nigeria's Policeman-Poet. Today, he has a collection of Poems tagged "Song of the Peacekeeper" to his credit which captures humanity's cry for Peace. He is married and blessed with children.
His hobbies include Reading, Poetry, Traveling and making new friends.
7. The AIG Zone 5 Benin wishes to solicit the cooperation of the good people of the Zone, to assist the Police with useful and timely information that will enhance in checkmating crimes and criminality in the entire Zone.
