Fire engulfed a building along 2nd Agho Street, Benin City.

Crusaderhotnews

A call was placed immediately to the Fire Service on this number 08108378588 at about 16:32hours and it was picked on first dial.

A commendable act was that 28minutes later (17:00hours), they have arrived at the scene. The response time is commendable compared to what we used to see in past.

They were not called severally,  after the first call, they were the one that started calling to get the exact location and direction which to me is commendable.

There is also this believe that if those that who sighted the first fire first had made a call earlier, they would have arrived earlier.

Citizens should make effort to have emergency numbers saved in their phones, conspicuously displayed as well as reserving some credits in case of emergency.

The fire incident started when the children aged 7 and 5years were playing the fuel purchased by their father to power the generator later in the day. One of them struck the match and that was how the fire started.

At the time of the fire,  both parents were not at home, the intervention of neighbours saved the day.

Though properties were destroyed, no life was lost. However, two out of the four children at home when the fire occurred were taken to the hospital for check up as they may have inhaled some smoke.

Parents are advised to warn their  children about playing with dangerous items as well as keeping them out of reach.

We cannot also stop blaming the poor electricity situation in our dear country that is pushing people to seek alternatives thereby exposing them to lots of risk.

Thanks to the good neighbours who came for rescue, thanks to the Fire Service for their response as we would continue to condemn bad acts and commend attitudes.
