**To banish father

Elders and leaders of Urhonigbe Village in Orhionmwon Local Government Area of Edo State, have renewed threats of banishing the family of Ogieva Osaro Joseph, who also a policeman particularly his son, Ogieva Kelvin Osaruemwinomwan and daughter, over her alleged sacrilegious acts of getting pregnant out of wedlock, a development which the tradition of the village totally forbids, hence, he asked his son and daughter to present themselves to the elders for justice especially as his son has influenced his sister to escape without the knowledge of their father.

Recalled that the elders and leaders of Urhonigbe Village had on the 4th of June 2006, apprehended the daughter of the policeman, for getting pregnant to an unknown person who was neither yet to be recognised nor know the family status as tradition demanded.

Speaking about the trend, an elder who spoke on behalf of the Okaevbo ( Village head) and the leaders of the village, Sam. Okundolo, said that the acts of being pregnant to an unknown person had remained an acute offence which the norms and tradition frowns at, saying whoever is caught, is made to face the wrath of her misdeed as it is shameful for a daughter of the land to indulge in such a disgraceful act which is capable of destroying the dignity and integrity of the people, who are basically traditionalists.

Okundolo, further said when it was noticed that the said girl got pregnant, the elders and leaders of the village became curious and had wanted to know the man that was responsible because it is a taboo for a young girl to loose her virginity in such circumstances.

He added that there were lined up of traditional rituals she was expected to perform to cleanse the land in order to prevent possible pandemic which might result to terminal sicknesses among female children in the village.

The source who was furious, explained that the elders sent a frightening message of ritual performance to the father, who happened to also be in the elder cadre in the village to persuade the daughter to come over to perform the rituals before his son secretly influenced the release of his sister and escaped at midnight.

He noted that it took the timely bravery of the other youths to discover about her escape at the influence of his son and as such, the elders and leaders gave him (father) seven days ultimatum to both his son and daughter to present or alternatively, they would face banishment for daring them and when his son couldn't produce his sister for the traditional ritual, after the expiration of the seven days notice and particularly having known the penalty of the offence committed, also escaped, leaving his father who had no knowledge of their escape but had wanted them to come to face the elders.

Okundolo pointed out that he was also given seven days to produce his son or else he would also face banishment, stressing all entreaties he put to plead with the elders, leaders and youths of the village became futile as the aggrieved villagers who were head bent on carrying out the traditional sanction paid deaf ears to his plead and as the seven days ultimatum was becoming expiring and having known that he was going to be relieved of his position and his entitlements siezed as well as being subjected to banishment, he too ran away from his house since he and his children had become a humiliating figures in the locality.

The source reiterated the determination of the village elders and leaders to launch a search warrant against the children, saying their pictures have been circulated to enable the members of the public to trace them to apprehend, insisting that the law enforcement agencies cannot unravel the circumstances leading to them being declared wanted as their offences are practically traditional matters, which needed to be addressed traditionally.

He explained that information reaching them revealed that their father facilitated the police involvement and publication of the story to enable the government extend justice to his children.
