The chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Edo state council, Comrade Festus Alenkhe, has urged the
EXCO of Imaguero College Old Girls Association
to ensure they formulate and created programmes that would boost the image and reputation of the body.
Comrade Alenkhe made the statements when the association paid the NUJ head and his exco a courtesy visit in the Secretariat of the NUJ to congratulate the present leadership of Union on their victory in the recent just concluded election, Benin city.
He appealed to the body to go back to their school and inquire for the plights that the school is facing and ensure they give back to their old school
" I know that all these years, I have be reporting crimes, I have not report any thing bad about your association. I have reported other school on crimes and other heious crimes. So, it goes to show that the good reputation that you people meant in the school or the one you left is still in tact.
" You should try as much as possible to keep the image of the association. Let me that, old student associations wether mixed school, boys or girls school is an anveue for you to reunite for those you have not seen for decades and for years. An opportunity for to reunite and keep life going. For those who are still alive, I congratulate you.
" You will recalled that, not all of you that attended the school are still alive today. So, the process of reunite, you must have some old school students with you. For the fact that you still have some with you, you give thanks to God for everything. As far that the unity of this association remains. Try as much as possible to create programmes that would boost the image of the school.
" I want to say that, all work without no play, make Jack a dull boy. Therefore , you suppose to create forum where you can think, reasoned, brainstorm and relax for a while. And again go back to the school and find out what their needs are. Because the school had given you, you must now give back to the school. How will you give back to the school? By moving and looking around the school premises, and see some of these facilities that the school lack, and replace them.
" What you will do is to pick up a projects that you people would embark on and do it. By so doing you affecting the school, students in the school and government. For your 35 years anniversary, you need to quickly set up a team that would plan properly and kick start the activities of the event, and get the state government involve.
"How do you get the state government involve? You can write a letter to seek audience with the state government, deputy governor and SSG. When you do all these, you succeeded in using your association to win government activities. These are the best way to go about it. So put up a formidable team that would plan the event to enable you achieve the aims of the school.
" For us as journalists, we want to assure you of adequate publicity for the programme . Starting from this moment, I known that this courtesy visit event will be read on internets and other social media platforms. When the time of the 35 years anniversary comes, let us know so that we can settle up publicity committee in respect of the event.
" We will give you publicity in two media stations. They are; Edo Broadcasting Service (EBS), and Nigeria Television Authority (NTA). We will arrange for it, so that they can come with their team and cover the programme for you. When that is done the association name and image will be publicize," Alenkhe emphasized.
Stating the essence of the courtesy visit, the leader of the association, Mrs. Peace Igueduwa, said the main core of the event is to congratulate the NUJ chairman and his exco on their victory on the recent concluded NUJ polls. She equally begged for the media coverage and publicity of their programme.
" Sir, the reasons why we are here is to inform you about our 35 years anniversary of our old girls students association. You know Imaguro grammar Girls school was founded 1987. And we are planning to celebrate the school. In one way or the other, Imaguro Girls Grammar School has affected molded us into what we are today," she averred.
