HON (BARR) COMR DAMIAN AZEGBEOBOR LAWANI: THE MAN OF THE* *PEOPLE

From his humble beginning and nurtured by his christian parent in the ways of the Lord, the young and vibrant comrade started his service to humanity right from his primary school days.
As the first born of his parent, the young and dynamic Damian learnt on how to serve the people diligently at his tender age from his father and mother, who were an educationist and trader respectively.

When he was a head boy in his primary school, he was well respected by his seniors and teachers because of his humility, smartness and intelligence.

Being an extrovert by trait, he was very confident and sociable in his leadership styles.

In all the secondary schools he attended, Hon (Barr) Comr Damian Lawani was assigned leadership roles.

When he left Anegbette Secondary School, Anegbette as a class prefect for Ekperi Grammar school, Ekperi in continuation of his secondary education, he was again elected as a class prefect.

Also, from Ekperi Grammar School, he went to St Bosco College, Ubiaja where he was elected as the senior prefect of the
college, this was a school he started midway.

What this simply implies was that his humility, academic excellence and exemplary characters were his ambassadors that speak good of him. 

In his university days, he was SUG  president. For instance, when he was in the prestigious university as a Law student as well as the President of the Student's Union Government, Hon (Barr) Comr Damian Lawani executed several laudable projects that were economically viable and beneficial to the students and the entire University community.

One among these projects executed by this young, vibrant and dynamic politician was the construction of pedestal bridges in some parts of the University.

He also built two  Cafes for the students to have easy and affordable meals on while campus.

These Cafes were rented out to food vendors to boost the IGR of the SUG.

As he was not done yet with his service to the people, Hon Lawani Damian again established a laundry service in the University campus to reduce the time and cost which the  students and the staff spent in going outside the main campus to seek for laundry services.

After the pursuits of his education, Hon Lawani Damian has unrelently served his people through the executions of projects meant to change their lives positively and increase their standard of living. Which was why he has continued to execute and commission viable constituency projects while he was a member of the Edo State House of Assembly between June 2015 and June 2019 simply to add values to the lives of his constituents.

He took the bull by its horn even when there were cash squeezes during his first term in the House.

The executions and commissioning of his constituency projects made him taller above his contemporaries in the House most especially those from Etsako and Owan Federal Constituencies.

Today, the footprints  of his leadership quality are very visible and eyes marks.

Permit us therefore to list out some of his programmes and projects executed and commissioned in his first term while in EDSHA.

1. A block of 3 classrooms and office in Agbazi primary school, Agbabu community.

2. A Primary Healthcare Centre at Ogbago community with a motorized water borehole project installed.

3. 40 open market stalls built in Ogochi community.

4. Renovated the Primary Healthcare Centre in Udaba community and provided a digital laboratory diagnostic machine for the healthcare centre.

5. Renovated the Examination Hall in Fugar Mixed Secondary School, Fugar.

6. In the year 2017, he initiated a program called 'Educate The Child'. With this educational programme, he enrolled WAEC and NECO SSSCEs for greater number of our indigent students in both public and some selected private secondary schools across Etsako Central LGA.

7. As a Civil Commissioner in the State, he started execution of a block of 3 classrooms with two staff offices and toilets for Udaba primary school, Udaba. It was completed and commissioned in 2021 by the Deputy Governor of Edo State after he has left office.

8. When he was the Commissioner for Youths, Sports and Special Duties, through his vibrant and cordial relationship with his boss, he was able to influence the completion of the long abandoned NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Okada. By the grace of God Edo State can now boast of a modern permanent orientation camp for our intending NYSC Ccorps members posted to Edo State through his efforts.

9. As a commissioner, he also influenced the appointments of many youths, middle aged men as State SAs and SSAs across the 18 LGAs in Edo State. Today, that has boost  CVs as young politicians seeking elective and political positions.

10. It may interest us to know that Hon (Barr) Comr. Damian Azegbeobor Lawani has also served as Senior Legislative Aide to former Sen. Domingo Obende for few period. While he worked with him, he influenced the appointments of some of youths into the Nigerian Security & Civil Defence Corps, Nigerian Correctional Centres (Prisons), Nigerian Roads Safety Corps and Nigerian Police Force.
He also influenced the building of Town Hall projects in Ugbekpe Ekperi and Anegbettte communities. These projects have been completed, commissioned and put into uses.

11. As a legislator, he influenced three EFCC jobs for some of our youths from Etsako Central LGA.

12. In EDSTMA, he also assisted the enlistment of some of the pioneer officers of which the majority of them are from his constituency.

13. In the EDSHA, through the its Service Commission, he got some Etsako Central indigenes permanent civil service appointments.

14. Another remarkable project to the credit of Hon (Barr) Comr. Damian Lawani was the construction of an Examination Hall with an office for Osagbe  College, Udaba when he was an SSA to the Governor State under the regime of Comr Adams Aliyu Oshiomhole. This was another achievement which his colleagues then couldn't ventured.

Leave it or you take it; love him or hate him, the truth must be said, Hon (Barr) Comr Damian A. Lawani has delivered his electioneering campaigns mandates to his constituents to the best of his ability and within the resources that were made available to his office when compared to his colleagues who they were in the 6th Edo State House of Assembly together.

Hence it was proper to support, nominate and vote for his second term bid.
