...Holds Stakeholders Meeting With Patent Medicine Dealers Across Edo Central And Edo North Senatorial Districts On Lassa Fever Sensitization In Ekpoma.
The sensitization on the prevention of the spread of Lassa fever which was organized by the state ministry of health, is to forestall a further spread of the virus to other parts of the state as about 40 cases has been recorded in Edo central and Edo north so far within the last few weeks.
The medical team from the Edo state ministry of health, Dr. Ekaete Tobi (incident manager, min. Of health), Dr. Stephenson Ojeifoh (state director of public health) and Pharm. Mrs. Osa-Afe Tivere, (Director of pharmacy services min. Of health, Edo state) said, they decided to focus on the patent medicine dealers because, they are the first point of call to the patients who may be manifesting the symptoms of lassa fever and should be told to always refer such patients to the nearest health facility such as Irrua specialist teaching hospital for lassa fever screening, where all medications concerning lassa fever treatment has been provided by the government for free.
They also educated the patent medicine vendors on some of the symptoms to watch out for while attending to these suspected lassa fever patients.
The Edo state president of the Nigeria association of patent madicine dealers, Sylvester Ebojele said, all hands must be on deck to carry out the sensitization in order to eradicate lassa fever from Edo state, expressing fear that some patients hesitate going to the hospital for fear of hospital bills.
