EDO NUJ MOURNS DOKPESI, NUJ FLAG TO FLY AT HALF MAST IN BENIN AS CONDOLENCE REGISTER OPENS

The Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Edo State Council has opened a condolence register in honour of High Chief Raymond Dokpesi who died on Monday 29 May, 2023.

Consequently , the union has held an abridged version of its congress in Benin city . 

The congress meeting had in attendance journalists drawn from the 15 chapels of the Edo state council of  NUJ. 



Speaking, the Edo state Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists , Comrade Festus Alenkhe informed journalists of the sudden passing away  of High Chief Raymond Dokpesi which he described as a huge loss to the press and the nation at large.


According to Comrade Alenkhe, "Raymond Dokpesi was a man who used his platform, DAAR Communications to deepen Nigeria 's democracy.


"He was never biased, he was fair in his reportage. Today, we are enjoying the effort he laid for today's democracy.


 "We will greatly miss him, especially his support to Edo NUJ. 

Comrade Alenkhe said a  condolence register has been opened in the press centre in Benin city  for journalists and non journalists to sign.  

He said the  NUJ flag has  been reduced to half mast and it will be flown for 7 days. 


Responding during the congress, a  two time Secretary of the Council, Comrade Titus Akhigbe said, "Chief Raymond Dokpesi was a great man. He was very dear to us. He was easily accessed, a father to all and a true friend".


Comrade Isaac Olamikan, Comrade Kadiri Christopher, Mercy Onyewili, Edosa Okunbo and Chris Akhabue among other journalists who eulogized the high chief expressed their deepest condolences to the family and journalists in Edo state .
