There has been a significant turnaround in the affairs of Ikpoba-Okha since 2018 when Dr. Eric Osayande took guard of the Council; the way and manner he has effectively and efficiently managed the resources of the local government leaves one in awe; from a paltry N23,000 he met in Council in 2018, Osayande has taken Ikpoba-Okha to a height attracting envy and admiration.
It is not a common phenomenon to have a Council Chairman serve two consecutive terms in Edo; particularly in Ikpoba-Okha, a very competitive and vibrant local government, parading some of the best and resourceful brains in Edo politics, where the creative and political sagacity of one man ends, that is where that of another begins.
Ikpoba-Okha is one unique local government in Edo with boundless, limitless, intelligent, brilliant, creative and cerebral minds, contributing immensely to policy formulation and implementation, aimed at actualising the sacrosanct ideas of the founding fathers of Edo State for the good of the vast majority of Edo people.
One local government in Edo that bears the torch of political awakening, electoral victories, infrastructure revamp; under Osayande's leadership at the Council level, Ikpoba-Okha has witnessed tremendous leap from a ramshackled piece of an unproductive fruit to a star in the dark shining bright for grassroot illumination.
Under Osayande, the vision is clear, a clinical example of fulfilled promises, binding on his unalloyed commitment to women and children, workers' welfare, clean, safe environment, maximum security, health, education, improved IGR, innovations in tech and a complete reorientation of the thought process of the people, that societies are not built on the back of hostility, but by shared ideas, visionary leadership, strategic communication, respect for leaders and the ability to captain that ship that conveys the people along the path of progress and collective prosperity.
Indeed, Osayande's journey to political mount olympus has been one laced with critical and analytical thinking, shared association, positive reinforcement, unwavering commitment and unquenchable hunger to serve; over the years, the unassuming Council boss has risen through the ranks, yet maintains a flawless posture that effortlessly attracts him to the political crème de la crème of Edo, including the Governor who often throws up a striking smile any time he encounters Osayande.
A lifestyle, devoid of any atom of dictatorship or imposition; a vision, capable of repositioning the fortunes of our communities; leadership, built on mutual respect and the promotion of intellectualism and excellence at executing given tasks; political ideology, not hinged on self-aggrandizement, but for the collective emancipation of the people from the shackles of hardship, poverty, lack and want.
Since his return to Council for the second leg, which was followed by grandiose reception, Idogbo has become an arena of boisterous inter-relations, an obvious enthusiasm now persists amongst the body of workers, a clear and unequivocal signal that Osayande is welcome back and that Idogbo has missed him since March 5, 2021 he left Council.
Osayande returns with burning passion to serve; a pool of new, innovative policies, married with the old, existing, productive policies, aimed at consolidating the tremendous achievements recorded in the years 2018-2021, when the Council Chairman first served—no doubt, Ikpoba-Okha is ready for the consolidation business.
One of the two (2) returning Chairmen in Edo today; Osayande's nomination by his PDP and eventual election by the people of Ikpoba-Okha, winning overwhelmingly his opponents, stems from his firm grip on the plough of efficient service delivery, building a rock-solid foundation for the continuous economic and infrastructure re-engineering of Ikpoba-Okha—a cosmopolitan local government area that continues to weather the storm for inter-regional, inter-religious and inter-tribal harmony, needed for a stronger and more united Edo.
Loved by many, admired by contemporaries, he stands a practicable rallying point for intergovernmental interactions, and when Councils across Edo would need to begin to develop working policies and developmental programmes, Osayande would be a dependable go-to guy; yet maintaining a posture that suggests readiness to learn from his first-time colleagues.
And as we approach a new week, the Council Boss sets to roll out his policies, programmes, having started with the annual Principal's Cup—a footballing initiative aimed at harvesting raw and untapped talent at the grassroots for inter-regional football mudial, for which Ikpoba-Okha has consistently brought home laurels; while the culture preservation initiative is already underway, Osayande sets to equip more schools to enhance the teaching and learning process across the locality.
He is a dependable, formidable and focus-driven public servant, well-equipped for daunting tasks, opening up the space for collective idealism, building capacity for collective prosperity, yet Osayande continue to exhibit an unwavering posture, best described along the line of loyalty, service, commitment and unbridled dedication to the ideas of duty.
