The Edo State Public Procument Agency in collaboration with the British Council under the Rule Of Law and Anti Corruption, RoLAC programme recently organized a three days training retreat on capacity building on media engagement.
The three days event with the theme
"Capacity Builing On Media Engagement for Improved Public Awareness, Development Of Communication strategies and Media Tools" took place from July 10th -12th 2024 in Benin.
The Managing Director Of EDPPA, Mr James Owolabi who spearheaded the initiatives said that the training was an opportunity for the development of EDPPA Publicity Staff and Media Practitioners to learn new strategic ways on how to engage with partners and beneficiaries which will help in leveraging on her relationship with stakeholders and partners in creating new programming initiatives
Also, he noted that its aim is to focused on supporting democracy using Communication Strategy and to explore Communication in detain offering insight and critically evaluating the information which will deepen diverse perspectives strategies that aim to increase awareness, promote transparency, build trust and foster engagement and feedback on matters using participatory approach and accountability.
Delivering lecture, Mr Multar Suleiman, Head Of Communication Units RoLAC and also a resource Instrutor, outline that the bedrock of Communication is a plan for Communication with "Target Audience". The Target Audience he said is the most important Strategy (objectives of a particular activity) that ensure important information is revealed to the right crew through internal and external Communication that increase efficiency of workforce through Audience Profiles Assessment detail and Madia Mapping.
In his submission, Suleiman stated that Communication strategy transcend beyond Media coverage and News writing into human behaviour and cultural theories coming in play through Capacity building, Public Activism, Media Strength, Engagement and promoting transparency.
He outlined that Communications Strategy is a specialized approach to distributing and receiving information which means communicating the best message, through the correct channels, to the right people, at the right time and using feedback from this process to stay focused on company goals.
Acquainting the trainees on the rudiments of Media tools, Suleiman pointed Communication as a Living Content that stand as best channel for disseminating information through its engagement with the audience and also as Media Advisory Communique that serve as working document.
Having grasp the working of the Online App, the participants were taught how to create and engage in Content Creation, and the basic Model of Messaging using Carva.
In a Goodwill message, Amb. Festus Alenkhe, Chairman, Nigeria Union Of Journalists NUJ appreciated the organizer for instituting the capacity training and it's knowledgeable insight it have explored Communication in details.
He expressed his admiration on RoLAC capacity of strength, in fostering community engagement and public awareness has underscored effective delivery in developmental infrastructure that supports Public Service and the Media. Hence stand as a beacon of hope to humanity.
The high points of the training was the participatory and fun-filled technical sessions that strengthened one's intellectual reasoning/enhancement and designed to boost efficiency and productivity.
The week -Long training programme had Twenty
-Two participants including Fifteen EDPPA Staff representing the various departments (Programs, Human resource, Account, Technical and Media dept) as well as Seven Practising Journalist participated actively in the training.
