Osayande meets DPOs, security agencies, Enigie, PFN, sues for increased police-community relations to curb crime in locality

Divisional Police heads in Ikpoba-Okha local government area has hailed the LG Chairman, Dr. Eric Osayande, for his purpose leadership and backing the Police in the discharge of their duties; of equal opinion is the Immigration, NSCDC, NDLEA and the DSS, who commended the Council Chairman for his responsive approach to the security of lives and property of Ikpoba-Okha people. 


The commendation came at the security meeting of the Council Chairman and the various security agencies in Ikpoba-Okha LGA on Tuesday.


Osayande at the security meeting, assured of increased support and backing for the security formations, noting that the LGA's local vigilante and the Enigie must work with the conventional security arrangement for improved security arrangement in Ikpoba-Okha. 


Issues ranging from personal data collection of residents, checkmating of scavengers, increased night guards across communities, streets in the LGA, improved working tools for the Police, other security outfits, were addressed. 


Osayande informed the security heads of the establishment of a sector command in Ohovbe with Scott Edokpolor as sector commander, a development that attracted applauds from the Police heads; the Ikpoba-Okha local government Chairman, assured the various security heads of his continuous support to fighting crime in the locality, noting that security is the business of everyone. 


"I will continue to engage relevant persons and groups to ensure that lives and property in Ikpoba-Okha are safe; we have done so much to protect our people, the need to continue to explore new opportunities to improve the business of security cannot be over-emphasized", Osayande noted. 


Commending the existential police-community relations in Ikpoba-Okha, Osayande hailed the traditional institution for cooperating with security agencies to secure their communities; the Chairman assured of improved bridge building amongst them. 


On the issue of local identification system, the meeting resolved that communities, landlords, business, property owners in Ikpoba-Okha must be made to create an identification system to collate the identity of their subjects for onward transmission to Council, aimed at curbing the influx of unknown persons in communities, areas. 


On the checkmating of scavengers across the LGA, the meeting resolved that dump site owners where scavengers are prevalent, must be made to take stock of scavengers who daily visit their sites for work; and where strange characters are noticed, owners must immediately alert the Police. 


The meeting further called for the sustainability of community, area night guards to ward off night time crime; Osayande reiterated that his efforts led to the establishment of local vigilante across the LGA in 2020, which was replicated by other LGAs and has become a statewide establishment; the security heads, however called for improved equipping of the vigilante force as they constitute significant security cover for residents. 


At the meeting, security heads hailed Osayande for his overwhelming support, they however sued for revamp of their working facilities to meet their ever-increasing targets. 


The various security heads took turns to brief the Council Chairman of security developments in their areas, and measures taken to improve security of lives and property; the Enigie of Ogua and Evbomodu, attended the meeting, assuring to continue to work closely with the various security agencies resident in their domains. 


Residents have been charged to be conscious of their environment and report suspicious characters to relevant authority


The Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), had representatives in attendance, who noted that the Church, considering the vast majority of residents that frequently visits worship centres, will continue to play key role to improve security. 


A representative of the Arewa community was also in attendance. 


Amongst security heads at the Tuesday meeting were Faith Akhademe, NSCDC, Godwin Omoike, DPO Ikpoba Hill, Chris Izevbokun, DPO Idogbo, Oluku Othuke, DPO Ugbekun, Samuel Okoi, DPO New Etete, Sylvester Oboze, DPO Loveworld, V. Osawaru, DPO St. Saviour and Bridget Irabor, DCO Aduwawa. 


Others are Ukadike Martins, Area Crime Officer, Ademu Alih, NDLEA, S.I. Munaso DSS and Angela Akaro, Area Commander; Apst. Elvis Agbonayinma, DPG PFN I and Rev. Osamere Jeremiah, DPG PFN II, represented the Christian body. 


From the traditional institution, the Enogie of Ogua, HRH Aghahowa Ogiesoba, and the Enogie of Evbomodu, HRH Ekpen Ivbievbiokun, stood in for the institution with assurance of strengthened synergy. 


The Arewa community was also in attendance, represented by Mr. Sahabi. 


The Ikpoba-Okha local government Chairman, directed DPOs and other security heads of various areas with identifiable security reports to take up the issues at the community levels, and report back to the Chairman for further action, bringing the Tuesday security meeting of the Osayande-led Council, security heads, the traditional institution, the Church and the Arewa community to a close. 


Secretary to Local Government, Barr. Osagie Igbinomwanhia, Head of Local Government Administration, Kessington Osifo, Director of Administration and General Services, Comrade Blessing Uhunmwagho, and Secretary of the security community, Mrs. Emily Aloko, were amongst Council officials at the Tuesday security meeting, which held at the Chairman's office, Idogbo.
