From the legal perspective, Barr. Andrew Lawani emphasized the need for men to know their rights as one way to overcome difficult times.

Lawani, speaking at the 3rd International Men Convention of the ECMFI, Church of God Mission International, identified some mistakes which, he said, are often seen as minor faults but have legal consequences in the long run.

Citing the issue of marriage, the lawyer cautioned the men against approaching any church for marriage, saying any marriage conducted in a church that is not duly registered by the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) “is null and void”

He told the men that church marriage and the registry's are the same, as both issue the same certificate bearing the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

The legal practitioner noted, contrary to a misconception about *next-of-kin* , “it only means a person who can easily be contacted in case of emergency. He added that it doesn't in any way confer a right of ownership or inheritance on anyone so named in any document.

Lawani said anyone who wished to access the account of a deceased should head to the customary court and seek what he called “Customary Power of Court” to administer the Estate.

*Men who are believers, make your wives to be your next-of-kin. For women, make your* *husbands your next of kin. “If you are a man here, allow your wife to know your ATM PIN so* *that she can quickly access your account in case of an emergency. Or both of you can open a joint account. Nobody prays for death.”*
