The authorities of the Nigerian Police, Edo State Police Command, the elders and youths of Oka Community in Ikpoba Okha Local Government Area of Edo State, have arrested a middle-aged man identified as John Uzoh, just they have declared his gay partner and principal suspect, Isaac Desmond Osakpolor, wanted over his alleged involvement.
Recalled that Pa Isaac Osayande Osunde, had on the 15th of January, 2025, came to the police station within the jurisdiction of the community to report a case of alleged gay practice against his son, Isaac Desmond Osakpolor and his gay lover (presently in police custody) John Uzoh, saying they have been in his watch list, especially having doubt their level of intimacy which became so worrisome.
Speaking to Crime Reporters at his residence to clarify the true position of the matter, Pa Isaac Osayande Osunde said that on the fateful day, at about 8.45pm, he heard a sound of screaming echoing from the room of his son and went close to the door to notice that his son and his gay lover, John Uzoh were both caressing.
He said that due to his age status, he quickly went to the police station to report and in their Swift response, the police drafted some armed officers who also engaged the personnel of the local vigilante group in the area to the scene with a view to arresting both of them
Pa Osunde added that immediately his son sighted the police and the vigilante who accompanied his father to the station, he jumped through the window but his gay lover was not lucky as he was apprehended and taken to the station.
At the station, John Uzoh, confessed to the crime and he was remanded in custody pending when investigations would be carried out to unravel the circumstances leading to the heinous crime especially as the criminal justice system in the country has proclaimed 14yrs jail term.
Similarly, the elders of the Oka Community, led by one Pa Eguakun Odia, said that the act was an abomination as it negates the norms and values of the rules of the Benin Kingdom being the highest cultural and traditional hub in the world
The village head maintained that same-sex practice, which consists of gay, homosexual and others, were punishable by death sentence and that both Isaac Desmond Osakpolor and his gay lover, John Uzoh are going to be killed through traditional and spiritual means to appease the gods and ancestors of the community since his father had agreed to comply for bringing disgrace and humiliation to his immediate and extended families.
The village head noted that based on that, the elders and youths had mapped out strategy to launch manhunt on Isaac Desmond Osakpolor to enable him face the full wrath of his alleged involvement in gay practice.
In a related development, the police, have perfected all their plans to charge John Uzoh to a criminal court or alternatively, they would release him to vigilante in an inward transfer to the community elders to be killed in line with the dictates of the tradition of the land.
