_...Iyamu hails former governor's revolutionary foresight_
By Gidigba Group
The Edo State Commissioner of Education, Paddy Iyamu, recently paid an inspection tour on the ongoing education hub, one of Obaseki's revolutionary projects in the Iyaro area of Benin City, Edo State.
At the visit, the Education Commissioner genuinely hailed the immediate past Governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki, for his foresight and revolutionary reforms on education; obviously wowed and impressed by the iconic and state-of-the-art education edifice, Iyamu could not hide his satisfaction with the project, giving it kudos on every spot.
The ongoing education hub project, standing majestically on Iyaro, Benin City, the Edo State capital, is one of the former governor's principal signature reforms on education, the project started on Obaseki's watch and is expected to run to completion on Obaseki's specifications; this extraordinary facility is one of Obaseki's fantastic legacies that marketed Edo to the rest of the world between the years 2016-2024, when Obaseki held sway.
Furthermore, the Obaseki education hub incorporates state-of-the-art facilities amongst which are the State Ministry of Education, the Universal Basic Education Board, the Board for Technical and Vocational Education Training, the State Secondary Education Board, a 500-seating capacity conference hall, Sporting Field and Green Area, a Primary Health Centre, Quality Assurance Office, playgrounds, restaurants, and cafeteria as well as a basic and a secondary school.
It is an exceptional, one-stop, go-to centre for global educational tourism, a world best standard project, conceptualized by the transformative Obaseki-led administration to meet the ever-increasing education demands of Edo people, Nigerians, and the rest of the world.
Political watchers in Edo has urged Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, to protect the facility to ensure it meets the specified design; and that, while Okpebholo's policy thrust on education is largely unknown, observers have said the governor could borrow Obaseki's education policy, which can be found in the transition documents, to guide his administration.
The Education Commissioner hailed the brain behind the hub, commended the concept, and expressed the Edo State Government's readiness to work within already-established plan.
Before Obaseki's intervention, the building was a shadow of itself, a rathole, a deathtrap, recklessly abandoned, having become a breeding ground for criminal and anti-social vices and a relaxation spot for lunatics who traveled from far and wide to hobnob there.
The building however suffered a disastrous fate, when, under the Oshiomhole-led government, it caught a wild fire, leading to the destruction of several school-leaving certificates; it was a sorry situation as many Edo people lost their academic certificates to the inferno; in fact, then governor Adams Oshiomhole was said to have allegedly lost his own primary six certificate to the fire; of cause Oshiomhole's primary six certificate lost to the fire.
Meanwhile, Edo people at home and in the diaspora, has hailed former governor Obaseki for his transformative intervention on the facility, hoping that the Okpebholo-led administration will be able to sustain the ideological framework upon which the Obaseki's iconic education hub is built.
