_...shuts door on Edo governor_

By Gidigba Group

There are reports of order from the Presidency to the Federal Ministry of Finance, to stop forthwith, FAAC allocations to Edo local governments, until the local government crisis instigated by the Okpebholo-led Edo State government is duly and properly resolved.

The Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) is a committee of the Federal Ministry of Finance, charged with the responsibility to among other things, ensure resources are distributed among the beneficiaries of the Federation Account in accordance with constitutional provisions and uphold the interpretations by the Supreme Court on areas requiring such clarification.

The lawless and unconstitutional takeover of Councils by Okpebholo, using erring Councilors to illegally impeach elected local government Chairmen in Edo has no doubt necessitated freezing of all Council accounts by the Court and stoppage of FAAC by the Presidency, a development that spells total doom for local government workers, who ordinarily are already having tough times following non-payment of their salaries.

Whereas Okpebholo had lawlessly imposed acting Chairmen in Councils, the illegal actors are now incapacitated, dumbfounded, confused and disillusioned as they lack the administrative rights and constitutional backing to execute any administrative duty.

Meanwhile, Presidency may have shut its doors on Okpebholo following his lawless and unconstitutional takeover of Councils, total disregard for Supreme Court ruling granting autonomy to Council and disobedience to court orders on the matter, his inability to manage violent eruptions in Court premises and other uncomplimentary developments which has put Edo State in bad light, and underline Okpebholo's perceived inability to govern a complex Edo.

It is said that Okpebholo may send the illegal acting Chairmen back home soon, as their continued stay in Council is inconsequential, following the illegality they carry on their neck like a badge of honour, which prohibits them from executing any administrative duty.

HOLGAs may be directed to take over the runnings of Councils pending Court resolutions on the matter.
