The ongoing Edo election petitions tribunal holding at the National Judicial Institute, Abuja, has taken a new turn, with INEC tactically pulling out after deliberately refusing to present witnesses, a situation that would have landed the electoral body and its witnesses in deeper legal dilemma.
APC/Okpebholo's chance in the tribunal got further darkened by that singular move by INEC; APC had thought INEC would help it navigate the legal huddles which the tribunal presents.
While APC/Okpebholo has appealed to open its case on Monday, observers have asked what exactly will APC/Okpebholo, who are obvious and crystal clear beneficiaries of the electoral heist perpetrated by INEC in the September 21 Edo guber, be defending.
Would they be defending the electoral malpractice—over-voting, deduction of votes, disregard for electoral proceedures, and the other inconsistencies that surrounds the poll, which PDP/Asue-Ogie has successfully proven with accompanying evidence, all in CTCs?
And as Monday fast-approaches, whether APC will field unknown witnesses who are likely to secure themselves jail terms like Prof. Ignatius Uduk, or equally abandone the case like INEC, ranks amongst the dangers that awaits APC/Okpebholo at the tribunal.
