Reports have emerged as to the peril that ravaged twin communities in Ovia North East 2.00am this morning by supposed forest herders; the killings across communities in Edo are strange and signals perilous times for residents of the State, requiring divine intervention.
We are told that while the villagers, who are predominantly farmers slept, forest herders swooped in on them, unhindered, raining terror on innocent, unsuspecting residents.
Government must be seen to be proactive by setting up security policies and programmes to nip this ugly trend in the bud; throwing out suspension letters after lives would have been lost is only cosmetic and brushing about the surface.
Furthermore, there is need to review the local government system; as the absence of local government Chairmen ranks amongst the principal cause of the overblown insecurity now bewildering Edo people.
We urge Edo people to remain vigilant and continue to devise self-help methodologies to protect themselves and their properties, amidst apparent incapability of government to provide soccour.
With Uromi 16 still fresh amidst random arrests of supposed perpetrators, Edo North residents living in fear amidst threats of attacks, Ovia under siege while farmers slept, it is indeed perilous times in Edo and only a divine intervention can end the bloodbath spreading rapidly across the State like wildfire.
