The Okpebholo-led administration is reported to have squandered billions of naira on foreign trips—the National Bereau of Statistics reports that the administration has attracted zero FDI to Edo despite expending billions of Edo's lean resources on overseas trip.
When governments travel, it is not for fun or sight seeing, but to market the investment potentialities of the State for investors' buy-in, under Okpebholo, however, the reverse is the case, as officials are reported to engage on foreign trips just to buy cars, walk about foreign streets aimlessly, taking selfies, and lodge in hotels.
Under Okpebholo, Edo has taken significant steps backward—there is no policy on anything, no programme, no vision, no direction—the administration lacks creativity, as officials are seen daily gossiping on social media, waiting for month end to pick salaries and go home.
Okpebholo's administration is a historic mistake in Edo—the administration lacks the courage and mental capacity to innovate or build systems capable of positioning Edo at competitive height—today, Edo is the most backward State in Nigeria, with no clear cut policy direction by a government that emerged on the back of high wired electoral malpractice, endorsed by a compromised judiciary.
Okpebholo does not seem to worry about the incompetence that blinds his administration—the few intelligent people in the administration are rather overshadowed by the numerous hangers-on who have now made government house their home in desperate search for appointment, not necessarily to add value, but to just survive, via salary earnings and other kickbacks.
When we thought Edo had started to pick up, boom, Okpebholo emerged from nowhere, took the reverse gear and set Edo on a backward trajectory, so that currently, Edo State does not rank high on anything, be it education, security, health, infrastructure, economic reforms, civil service reforms, innovative governance, etc.
While Lagos, FCT, Ogun, Oyo, Kaduna, Kano are turning in huge dividends from foreign engagements according to NBS, Okpebholo's Edo is just there—dormant, officials are only in government for survival, no value added, as the Okpebholo-led administration continue to deep hands recklessly in the State's resources, with no significant turn around.
