A former deputy governor of Edo State, Philip Shaibu, has claimed to be owed over ₦11billion by the Edo State government—as monies that accrued to him while in office, but that he was never paid.
The matter is generating mixed reactions across quarters with mouths wagging as to what the deputy governor did to be owed ₦11billion by the same government he served as number 2.
Amongst Shaibu's demands is a ₦1.9billion security vote, which the former DG claims he never got; there is another ₦85million for wife's medical allowance, the former deputy governor, who now serves as Director General of the National Institute of Sports, is also demanding for his official residence, plus sundry other benefits.
Travel allowances, inconvenience, entertainment, newspaper, and all other statutory entitlements amounting to over ₦100million has also been demanded by the former deputy governor, who has approached the court to pursue the matter legally.
Analysts have said they will monitor the matter closely to see how it pans out—whether the Okpebholo-led Edo State government will reward Shaibu despite not being in the saddle when the matter developed—another concern now trending is where the State government hopes to cough out such amount considering the harsh financial realities the State currently faces under the ruling APC.
Meanwhile, Shaibu, who had a bitter ending with his boss, Godwin Obaseki, is a friend of the Edo governor Monday Okpebholo, and a top-tier member of the APC, the same Party now in power in the State.
