Don't politicize security, say it as it is, reactivate Edo's command and control infrastructure—Gidigba tells Edo governor

_...deploy your over ₦1billion security vote to build security structures_

By Gidigba Group

We are compelled to draw Okpebholo's attention to what we perceive as deliberate politicization of the rising insecurity in Edo State—Mr. Governor, without mincing words, there is ravaging insecurity in Edo State and the need for you to roll up your sleeves cannot be overemphasized.

Like a City at war, Edo residents have never been this scared to embark on long trips—today traveling through highways in Edo is like living in a Lion's den, because of fear of being attacked by gunmen, particularly kidnappers.

The greatest damage your administration can do is to chose to politicize the matter—we urge you and your administration to expunge every atom of thoughts to make security in Edo a political first liner—do not dare; the consequences of politicizing security is always devastating, throwing innocent residents to trauma.

We also urge you to reconsider the reactivation of the command and control security infrastructure built by the immediate past administration, for which your administration dismantled for primitive political reasons—that is not the true character of a leader.

For your information, Mr. Governor, the Edo State Command and Control Centre is a government initiative in Benin City, Edo State, Nigeria, designed to enhance security and facilitate communication between the public and authorities, it serves as a central hub for emergency response, providing helplines for citizens to report life-threatening emergencies and other issues, with the goal of fostering a safer and more secure environment for residents.

It is best that your administration adopt the Edo CCC, rather than dismantle it to score cheap political points—we urge you to as a matter of urgent public safety, reactivate that programme.

The potpourri of kidnappings prominent in today's Edo, and your government's perceived incapacitation to tackle it, must not be allowed to get to our doorsteps before we act—Edo people whom you lead do not deserve the mental, moral and psychological trauma they are now daily faced with by daredevil kidnappers; you must rise up, reason beyond narrow politics, and protect residents.

Elections are long over, political enmity is over, now is the time to show working; the security of life and property of Edo people must be seen to occupy the front burner in your administration's pronounciamentos—it must not be an instrument for political capital.

You must rally your men and the relevant security architecture to develop security policies for your administration; administrations are run on policies, not offhand, not fluke; do not politicize security, say it as it is, reactivate Edo's command and control centre, build on it, for the overall safety and security of Edo residents.

Conclusively, Mr. Governor, your over ₦1billion security vote can be deployed to build security structures, systems and platforms to ensure a safer Edo—ten months is more than enough to understand the principles of governance; and to whom much is given, so much more is expected.
