The Executive Chairman of Ikpoba-Okha Local Government, Dr. Eric Osayande has moved men and security operatives to enforce the stay-at-home order of the Edo State government in Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area
Osayande stated that the Obaseki-led administration has expressed zero tolerance in its efforts to tackle the novel COVID-19 currently ravaging humanity world over
The movement which held on Saturday forms part of the Osayande-led administration's plans at preventing the pandemic from spreading across the LGA
A visit to Santana market on Saturday revealed that some traders who do not deal on food and medical items were seen around the market thereby posing serious health hazards to themselves and other members of the public
Osayande who was visibly angry quickly shut down their shops, restating that only traders of food and medicals are expected to be in the markets
The Council Boss has directed security operatives to remain vigilant and shutdown shops of residents flouting governments' order
"Go home; you are not expected to be in the market; only traders of food and medical items are expected here; lock up and go home now" Osayande said; as traders were seen hurriedly locking up to go home
At Dumez road taxi park and market, the Chairman has asked the drivers and traders to be ambassadors of goodwill by playing the role of enforcement officers to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in the LGA
Thereafter, the Council Boss was at St. Saviour junction to speak with commercial bus drivers on the need to maintain preventive measures
The drivers have been asked to reduce the population in their buses as only two (2) persons at the back, two (2) in the middle and one (1) in front; and for the the taxi cabs, two (2) at the back and one (1) in front is allowed
He has also asked the tricycle operators to in the meantime maintain two (2) persons at the back and one (1) in front all geared towards discouraging overloading and by extension minimizing the spread of COVID-19
The Ikpoba-Okha Local Government is also compiling bank account details of the traders and transporters for onward transmission to the Edo State government to cushion the effects of the stay-at-home order
On the Chairman's entourage were Head of Local Government Administration, Ikpoba-Okha, Barr. M. Ahonsi, Supervisory Councillor for Health, Hon. Diamond Ogieriakhi, PHC Co-ordinator, Dr. Hope Ogiku, HOD, Environment, Mrs. Caroline Owegie, HOD, Wash, Mrs. Osahenmwiye Isibor, Director, Disease Surveillance and Control, Ikpoba-Okha, Mrs. Rose Eghaghe, Personal Assistant to the Chairman, Prince Abifade Oriakhi and a host of others
Osayande has said Council will continue the sensitization exercise across the LGA in line with the State Government's directive
