We draw the attention of the public to alleged planned fire attacks on major markets in Benin City, the Edo State capital—whereas reason(s) for these attacks has not be substantiated as at the time of filing in this report, we think it cannot however, be unconnected with the market leadership saga enabled by the government of the day.
The rejection of the installation of "Iyaloja" by the Oba of Benin and and the entirety of Edo people appears not to have gone down well with excessively interested elements in government's quarters, hence organized fire attacks are allegedly being coordinated.
We call on security agents, relevant authorities to swing to action and protect our women who we are told are the primary targets in these alleged planned attacks.
As we speak, a section of Oba market may be under threat—we ask for the swift intervention of relevant authorities to avert the danger now being intended on our Benin market women.
Major targets are Oba, New Benin, Osa, Edaiken, Oregbeni, Oka markets, alongside other principal markets across Benin City.
